WB's Justice League 2017 movie pre-discussion thread

You keep telling yourself that.

I don't need to, success (critical and commercial) speaks for itself.

The MCU started out great, but has only gone downhill. Thor Ragnarok looks like it's going to join the first two Thor movies, The Incredible Hulk, the first and second Captain America movies, and the first Avengers movie as standout installments, but everything else is cookie-cutter homogenous mediocrity that makes money, but has little rewatch value and isn't good for much besides making monery.

Let me guess, you're PO'ed that Civil War didn't end with Cap dead.

It's from two days ago, so apologies if already posted.

Also also, funny that JL is in the 1:85:1 ratio unlike every other Snyder and DCEU film ever (usually 2:35:1)...just like Avengers was for the MCU/Whedon up until that point. Huh. ;)

Its hard for something to die when it never existed. Seriously, like or dislike MoS and BvS, the DCEU Superman has never been about hope. It made no sense when he was mourned by so many at the end of BvS, and connecting to hope is ridiculous. Its the reaction to the comic Superman's death grafted on to the DCEU Superman even though his character never really worked like that and doesn't justify the same reaction.

He saved the entire planet in MoS and everyone knows it + has continued saving people after, so of course people would mourn the loss of such a hero. He's seen as a god by many and thus people channel their hopes into him, which is understandable. Hope is a big part of his character, even in the DCEU.

Just saw this fan made DCEU trailer, thought i'd share...

View it as a meta comment if need be. Hope for the DCEU never dies.

You keep saying things like this and it continues to not make sense.

Especially since it's patently - and provably - untrue.

Anyway, let's circle back to that Recap vid from above. I know that there was editing done on it (because there had to be), but if we throw that fact aside, the very fact that the vid's creator was able to so seamlessly integrate footage from the four DCEU films released this far and the released trailers for Justice League into something that feels just as epic as, say, Lord of the Rings says, at least to me, that JL itself is going to be very much in the same vein as the rest of the DCEU, both tonally and aesthetically, even if, as some of the trailers and TV spots are highlighting, it also has genuinely humorous moments as well.

No Tomatometer score for Justice League will be announced when the review embargo lifts on Tuesday night. The score will be "revealed" on Thursday 12:01 AM EST on RT's new See It/Skip It show, about 24 hours after the embargo lifts.

Some people are already losing their minds over this!

I do get tired of this bitching and moaning about Superman. First, fans complained that he wasn't complex enough as a character. And when someone portrays him as complex, then they bitch and moan about how he's "not the real Superman" or that "he's not about hope and is a failure".

It's like no one can really make up their damn minds about how Superman should be portrayed. I find it tiresome and sickening. Christopher Reeve was fine as Superman when I was a kid. But I grew up and became appreciative of the different styles of how Dean Cain, Tom Welling and especially Henry Cavill portrayed the character.

If Warner Bros. and D.C. Comics plans to regress Superman's characterization in order to placate the nay-sayers, I think I'm going to throw up . . . simply out of disgust.

I hope that you are right. But I fear that you might be wrong. By the way, unless you have actually seen the movie, I don't see how you can know how this movie will turn out.

^ I don't entirely understand why you're worried, or what you're actually worried about. JL, despite what some of the naysayers might believe, is still very much Zack Snyder's movie, and nothing about what we've seen so far gives any indication that, even with the injection of humor, the film is going to be any different, tonally or aesthetically, than any of the previous DCEU movies in general or Snyder's two previous DCEU films specifically... something that, as I noted, is bolstered by the fact that the person who made that "Road to Justice League" video was able to seamlessly integrate all of the previously released films' footage with the first couple of trailers for JL and do so without anything feeling out-of-place.

I'm not arguing with your greater point, but the editing part isn't so hard. You could edit a trailer for the DCEU and include any one of the MCU movies without the tone jarring. It's all about what you choose and how you use it.

Yeah. The anti-DCEU nerdrage contingent lives in an alternate universe where BvS was a "failure" that left the whole project foundering and that, gosh darn it, they had better get on making everything tonally exactly like the Marvel Cinematic Universe or there'll be hell to pay. But in the actual universe the DCEU has two perfectly solid and profitable films under its belt, one undisputed hit, and one something-of-a-misfire that still made money. There's no reason for any radical changes, and there's certainly no need to appease the people who bitch about "the real Superman" any more than there's a need to appease the sort of people who firmly believe Wonder Woman cannot be played by any person who was not cloned directly from Lynda Carter's DNA. None of that kvetching is noticeably impacting the movies' bottom lines.

I would be so sad to see Ben leave at this stage of the DCEU as I really loved his performance in BvS. It really annoys me WB didn't follow MoS with a standalone Batman movie to set up BvS as what would of been better to kick start the DCEU than a Superman/Batman trilogy story. It would of helped BvS so much as it would of meant BvS didn't need to act as an introduction movie for DCEU's Batman + it could of done the same for Suicide Squad with Joker/Harley.

In my head I would of done The Batman after MoS and then a follow up movie after JL introducing Nightwing & Batgirl because I would of kill Batman at the end of JL 2 when Darkseid makes his move on Earth in person and is stopped by the League. Batgirl could of taken the mantle up of protecting Gotham herself and also lay the grounds for a Gotham City Sirens project.
