WB's Justice League 2017 movie pre-discussion thread

You call rabid MCU fans "Marvel Zombies".

Like that comic series from a decade or so ago.
Oh, there are Marvel Zombies out there. They spend their time putting down the DCEU (movies and CW shows)

No!? Really?! I don’t believe you!

Pretty soon you’ll be telling us that these Disney "Zombies" post only in WB/DC threads all the time just to provoke DCEU fans.

I prefer Mouseketeers. The Marvel Zombies were as a moniker used to describe the die-hard followers of the comics dating back to the Lee/Kirby years. A following that has largely disappeared according to current comic book retailers.

Truth. There was crap about how Holland looked like a pre-teen, how dumb it was to show that Queens wasn't full of only white people, how dumb it was that May wasn't a walking cadaver, how Flash wasn't going to be a generic Jock, how dumb it was how Peter had ANY ties to the rest of the MCU instead of the movie pretending it was in a vacuum, etc.

You don't see anyone claiming how dumb it is for Flash to look up to Batman or how they should be the same age but Flash is younger here.

I didn't realize that Rosemary Harris and Sally Field were "walking cadavers". This reminds me on why younger women are always more valued in this society than older ones.

Bruce Wayne isn't Tony Stark. He may not be perfect, but he is no Tony Stark, thank goodness. Nor is Bruce being a mentor via computer technology and from thousands of miles away . . . with brief visits.

However, I have my own concerns about how "Justice League" will turn out. And they have nothing to do with the critics.

For a moment, I was wondering what Jude Law had to do with the X-Movies.

Oh man, I didn't even think of that one.

Comes with the territory. Disney owns Marvel, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, all their animated films (most of which are slated for live action remakes) and was recently in talks to buy most of 20th Century Fox. With Paramount and Sony's financial troubles, and Universal having no big franchises besides Fast and the Furious. After the young adult well (Twilight, Hunger Games, Maze Runner, Divergent) ran dry. The only challenger to the Disney throne is WB and their divisive but still highly profitable DCEU films. One of which, has netted WB an Academy Award. Disney needs to muscle out the competition in order to become the true entertainment kingpin.

I prefer Mouseketeers.

More like Diseny Stormtroopers.
Now that the House of Mouse has Star Wars.

Well, it's been the Marvel of Loeb, Quesada, Bendis and Brevoort for decades now. Fans turned pro, and they've managed to muck up things royally.

There doesn't seem to be a discussion about what you call rabid DC fans. The ones that think Snyder is a visionary who poops skittles and constantly complain about the MCU and whine that everyone is mean (or apparently brainwashed by Disney) for pointing out the problems with the crappy DCEU. I wonder why this isn't being brought up :vulcan:

Even though Aquaman just says "Bruce Wayne is Batman" I doubt those fishermen will care.

It's what they've been doing since 2008.

As usual, your claims are completely free of evidence. There's no risk in producing films based on characters who have all had previous adaptations and a wealth of merchandise over the span of 4 or 5 decades (making them highly visible/known in the popular culture) before the MCU. You will need to try harder....with facts, because your "taking chances" claim is nonsensical at best.

Aside from Spidey, none of them had the mainstream acknowledgment that the X-Men and DC had for their characters.

See the reply above. But to illustrate how dishonest you've been....
  1. The Hulk had an amimated TV series as part of The Marvel Superheroes show from 1966. In 1977, the character was adapted into one of the most acclaimed of all superhero adaptations--Kenneth Johnson's The Incredible Hulk, which turned the character into a cultural icon on the level of Superman or Spider-Man. Add animated series in the 80s and 90s, then the Ang Lee film, and no one in their right mind can claim Marvel took any risks...because they were dealing with a major character.
  2. Like the Hulk, Iron Man had his own episodes of the 1966 series, was heavily merchandised in the 60s, 70s & 80s, and was adapted for another animated series in the 90s. He was a known property.
  3. Yes, Thor was also part of the 1966 series, was merchandised just as much as Iron Man throughout the decades, and appeared on the two 80s Spider-Man cartoons, along with his first live action adaptation in the Incredible Hulk Returns TV movie. He would go on to be a guest star on the 90s Fantastic Four and Hulk cartoons.
Again, the characters were not some risk as if they were unknown to the culture. The MCU's productions were no risk-taking operation.

They played this clip on BBC’s Graham Norton show last night. Momoa was really in the water off the coast of Iceland and confirmed that it was freezing.

Though personally, I was thinking that a few minutes earlier they’d shown a pic of him meeting Emilia Clarke in Belfast this week and he was in a sleeveless vest. Going in the sea off the coast of Iceland would be a doddle compared to wandering round Belfast in your bare arms in November.

They weren't, but May in the comics was. And that's the crap Marisa got, not for not being Rosemary or Sally, but for not being exactly like comics May.

Bruce Wayne isn't Tony Stark.

Sorry, that's no excuse.

Nor is Bruce being a mentor via computer technology and from thousands of miles away . . . with brief visits.

He's still being a mentor to Barry, and no one is complaining.

Which is what DC and FOX did, as opposed to the MCU. The Hulk wasn't much of a risk, admittedly. But Iron Man wasn't that well known or merchandised compared to Spider-Man, Superman or Batman. Nor was Thor.

Compared to how WB has done things, MCU even CONSIDERING the stuff they did was a risk.

If anyone has experience being a mentor to junior crimefighters, it's freaking Batman...

Yet when Iron Man did it, all they got were complaints. Total double standard.

No, it doesn't. It's just the Production Team putting the effort in to making it clear the movies all happen in the same Universe. I fail to see how Ant-Man was anything like Homecoming.

You keep telling yourself that.

The MCU started out great, but has only gone downhill. Thor Ragnarok looks like it's going to join the first two Thor movies, The Incredible Hulk, the first and second Captain America movies, and the first Avengers movie as standout installments, but everything else is cookie-cutter homogenous mediocrity that makes money, but has little rewatch value and isn't good for much besides making monery.

Got a ticket for the Wednesday Previews. The biggest German cinema chain, CinemaxX, clings to brand some previews "Men's Night" or "Ladies' Night", depending on the film, and JL will be "Men's Night". In spring, they promoted the preview for WW as "Men's Night", but at some point somebody confronted the PR department of what a stupid idea that was, and they just had it as a regular preview.
