I don't think that's two X's, I think it's the top half of a concentric inner circle with two perpendicular radii crossing through it. Probably some kind of targeting scope/crosshairs graphic.
Anyway, I'm completely missing the significance of "top of a circle and two X's."
Ah, I looked at the fullsize and you are right.
I was referring to the smiley-face with X's for eyes that was used in promotion for Suicide Squad.

Its not easy work, and all along the way, anything that goes wrong falls on their heads first.
Reading more about the behind the scenes goings on, I can't imagine what's it's like to have a board of executives, investors, producers and others micromanaging a creators work and giving them lists of notes of what needs to be in the film. Who would ever want a job like that?
Aren't most people in jobs like that? Jobs where they have a hierarchy above them and rules that they have to follow? Teachers have to listen to the principal and the school board. Bankers have to listen to the bank manager and the executives and so on. Doctors have to listen to the hospital administrator and the board of directors and the medical board and so on.
Besides, the pay for screenwriters is insanely huge compared to what most pro authors make, so I guess a lot of them feel it's worth the tradeoff. And for many, the long-term goal is to get to the point where they can be producers or directors themselves and have the clout to make at least some of their decisions stick.

See, one could argue that they put up with it so they will (one day) gain enough clout of their own to run more of the show, but for Whedon and Snyder--as successful as they are--they still do not have the final word over productions, but they will get the blame if there's failure, despite the micromanaging of most studio productions. If the photos posted here show the directors as worn out, one can guess they think its worth the wear.
