Waters of Mars Airdate?

Sorry couldn't see another thread about this. Excuse me if it's already been discussed :)

Anyway I was looking through my TV calendar at http://www.pogdesign.co.uk/cat/11-2009 and it seems to indicate that Waters of Mars is airing on the 6th/7th of November (so a week after the Sarah Jane appearance).

What about US airdate?

The reason why I'm asking this, because I want to get it over, so I can move to my new apartment that I've been longing wanting to live in since the very beginning.

Good news if true. I'm sorely in need of a fix.

Only problem is my usual 'alternate method' website seems to have gone down. :(

The BBC has not announced an airdate, so any other source is bogus until they do. There was a similar source that announced totally out of whack dates for Sarah Jane, too at one point.

I just noticed they're showing V debuting on Nov. 4 and we know that's not happening. I'm not familiar with this source but those are two strikes against it.

The general rule of thumb is the BBC announces the date a couple weeks before broadcast, which means we should know within a week or two. None of the Doctor Who news webpages have indicated a BBC announcement yet.

The only episode we know with reasonable certainty is Part 1 of the finale (title yet to be confirmed) will most likely air on Christmas Day in the UK, with The End of Time airing either on Boxing Day (the 26th for those who don't observe it) or New Year's Day.

BBC America and Space can't schedule anything until they know the UK airdates. Though you would assume that they'd want to air as close to the UK as possible, there could still be a lag time. Then again, they showed Children of Earth soon after th BBC, so with any luck they'll do same with at least the finale.

I'm sure the BBC will post the date at least a couple of hours before it airs.

And that's dependent on Waters of Mars?

Though I have to admit the last couple of Christmas's I've hated not being at home to be able to obtain the latest special ASAP.

Take with the usual pinch of salt but it's being claimed that the BBC Picture Publicity website (the one that's only open to the media not the general public) has "The Waters of Mars" to be broadcast in Week 46, which is the week starting 14th November.

That does tie in with DWM previewing the episode in their next issue which goes on sale on the 12th.

And if true we'll know next Thursday at around 2pm.

Defently not concrete backup, but the BBC have released a press release for Children of Need (available here) which announces that there will be a preview for the Doctor Who Christmas special. Since it would be slightly odd to preview the Christmas specials before Waters of Mars has been shown, I think it is reasonably safe to conclude that "The Waters of Mars" will be broadcast between the 14th and the 20th.

There is a possiblity that it might not be shown on the usual Saturday slot, because the BBC One Saturday night schedule is pretty packed. If it was to be shown on a Saturday, it would probably have to be Merlin that would have to be put back a week to make room, and since one episode of Merlin has already been postponed by a week in this series due to Formula 1, I think the BBC would like to avoid the same happening again. It could be we are in for a Sunday evening broadcast for "The Waters of Mars".

Really? I honestly don't think that will be the case. You need to take everything in to account here. People work on Boxing Day in England, so they will massively sabotage their ratings if they decide to put on the Tenth Doctor's finale on Boxing Day.

If they do anything, it'll either be Christmas Eve for the first part (people work on Christmas Eve too, but the first part can be caught up before the finale), and the second part on Christmas Day. Failing that, they'll be shown on Christmas Day and New Years Eve/Day.

Also, if people want to take pot shots on when the Waters of Mars will be released, look at what BBC currently has on right now. The Formula One will be finished next weekend, so throughout November there will be no more set-backs. Then you've got the current shows that are on TV right now that conflict with the timeslot Doctor Who usually rests on (between 6-8pm). Merlin has 8 more weeks to run, and Strictly Come Dancing has 6 (so, if they were letting both shows run their course, the earliest would be December 6th).

The BBC won't show Doctor Who on BBC Two as it'll conflict with their other shows. So one of two things are going to happen - they'll leave one show off the air for a week (which will be Merlin, they won't take Strictly off), or they delay Doctor Who til December 6th.

Personally, as Waters of Mars looks to be a "scary" episode, I've got an odd gut feeling (that's more of a hope than anything else), that Waters of Mars will be shown on October 31st (Halloween), which means it'll be shown just a day after his depature on SJA.

Um yeah. The BBC have already released their schedules up to the 13th of November with no DW on them.

CIN will be previewing the last two on the 20th; which leaves the 14th or 15 for WOM.

(And while he's not an absolute authority on scheduling by any means John Simm has said in two different interviews now that his episodes go out on Xmas Day and New Year's Day.)

i bet it airs on the 21st or 22nd.

it's closest to the anniversary of Who's first transmission and it will have a trailer for Xmas on the end, so the CiN preview retains its exclusivity by being shown a day or two before hand.

Huh? For one thing Boxing Day falls on a Saturday this year and anyway a whole lot less people work on Boxing Day than would be the case on a normal Saturday so the whole damage ratings thing is nonsense. Boxing Day is a big TV day in the UK.

That said I think it will be Christmas Day and New Years Day.

The BBC have already taken Merlin of air mid season for F1 Qualifying so I can't see them minding doing it again. I would have thought the main problem with a Saturday night is the time. At the moment Strictly is two hours starting at 7pm - I can't see WOM starting at 6pm but put it on at 7pm and you push Strictly in complete conflict with X-Factor which will cause the BBC a few problems! Strictly normally finishes the week before Christmas actually - so the 19th.

Well I know my department at Orange have to work Boxing Day, and most companies will open because it's the fall out from Christmas Day, especially mobile phone companies etc.

I know for sure that they'll want to air one of the episodes on Christmas Day, and I'm betting that it'll be the finale. More people will sit down and watched the finale on Christmas Day because almost nobody will be working. Plus, I kind of like to think that 2010 will be Matt Smith's year.

Also going back to the timeslots, Doctor Who used to air at 6:15pm on BBC One, so it could very well keep it's timeslot and push Merlin back a week.

That's funny, my "alternate method" website has gone away too. Does your site display british "professional" wrestling?

No wrestling. But the site mascot was a little green gremlin dude. But, I found a new source, thanks to a helpful fellow board member. So alls good.
