Watching Star Trek out of order

Robert DeSoto

Lieutenant Commander
What order did you watch Star Trek in? If it was out of air date order, did you ever go, huh? what the hell are they talking about?

I watched all of TNG first, before watching DS9. I remember when the Enterprise-D engaged a bunch of Maquis ships, I was wondering who the hell the Maquis were and why they have Federation ships I've never seen before.

There are so many references from each series and each movie to each other so anyone who watches out of order has got to be confused. Especially the later fans.

Like for example just prior to the Dominion war, Sisko says the Federation fleet is badly weakened by the "recent Borg attack". I can imagine someone watching DS9 must be thinking "what? Borg attack? did I miss an episode?"

I guess ENT fans for the most part are okay since it takes place before the other series. But there are some episodes, like the series finale, where you have Commander Riker and the Enterprise-D. If you never watched TNG, you must be like, who the hell are these people???

There's a list around here somewhere that someone made of the ideal chronology/episode order across all the series and films. It shows where the series production schedules and storylines crossed and interacted. Generally, it means a lot of mixing late TNG and early VOY all thru DS9.

Star trek original series is my favorite. I have enjoyed all episodes of it lot of time. but i still curious to watch it again. Star trek TNG is also good but original star trek is fantastic for me. and i m sure Fans of Star trek , who have enjoyed it's original series, they also gonna for every thing related to star trek , but they still prefer first to watch Original star trek.

I had the same problem with TNG making references to the Maquis in "Preemptive Strike" when I hadn't seen any of season two of DS9 at that point.

If you think that's confusing, try watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel out of sequence. The two shows, which ended up on different networks, ended up being significantly interlinked.

I do tend to watch things in order, generally a season of a show or sometimes even a whole series at a time. Makes it easy to just move through the discs in order.

Actually, I like watching a series out of order for the first time.

It made me curious to make sense of the storyline and watch it more.

At one point, for some reason, I remember thinking Riker was the same person as the freighter captain in "The Outrageous Okana" and he was recruited as first officer by Picard.

I know it didn't make any sense, but it was still kind of fun watching the episodes to realize they weren't the same person and that Riker was always the first officer on the Enterprise.

With Voyager, I watched most of the second half of the beginning, so I was always curious about how it looked when everyone met for the first time.

It's kind of fun in a way.

I'm old. I started with TOS in the late Sixites (and the runs in the early Seventies) and watched each one as they came out. Seeing WNMHGB in broadcast order was a bit of a head scratcher, with the sudden change in uniforms and actors.

My favorite is Star trek original, Star trek 2009 and last not the least Star trek Enterprise. These three series are my favorite. I am watching Star trek enterprise TV show. forth season is running, which is very wonderful. I have watched all Star trek episodes online. It is very interesting and different concept.

I watched a little TOS when I was little. But didn't remember much.

Then I watched a few TOS films when I was still young.

Then I watched TNG and became a Trek fan.

Then re-watched the TOS films.

Then watched Generations.

Then I watched DS9's early seasons and stopped.

Then I watched VOY.

Then I watched First Contact.

Then I watched DS9's later seasons along with VOY's later seasons.

Then I watched Insurrection.

Then I watched Enterprise.

Then I watched Nemesis.

Then I watched a little bit of the Animated Series.

And then finally watched Star Trek 2009.

Star Trek 6 first. I was pre-teen, and nothing star trek had held my interest until Undiscovered Country was on HBO one day.

From there I watched TNG nightly re-runs. Looking at the dates, I was seeing re-runs anywhere from season 1-5.

Watched TNG and DS9 consistently in order from there, and went back and watched Star Trek movies 1-5.

Watched Voyager season 1, then only watched sporadically from there. Have seen most if not all episodes, out of order, in reruns.

Watched Enterprise, out of order, and missing at least half of the episodes. About 2 years ago I rewatched the entire series from beginning in order.

Have never seen the animated series.

I was introduced to Trek with TNG (Season 3) first, although I watched TOS and TNG (from Season 3 onwards) in parallel whilst growing up. Then I moved onto Voyager and TNG Seasons 1 and 2, then Enterprise and finally DS9. It took me a while to get through DS9 because I was not impressed with the series on first viewing.

Watched TNG all the way through on Sky in Ireland. Saw the premiere all those years ago. Watched DS9 all the way through (and it's the only series I'll have watch fully again). Watched Voy until season 3 then lost interested and watched it in drips and drabs. Watched one episode of ENT. Never watched a full season of TOS.
