Watching SG for the first time...

Distorted Humor

Am I correct to assume it is best to watch SG-1 as the starting point, and not any of the movies (first episode being a 90 some odd min pilot movie)

Definitely not, no. The pilot won't make much sense without the original movie, and the episodes that follow the pilot won't much sense without that either.

Movie as in the Spader/Russell film, or another movie? (I have seen the Spader/Russell film, even if it was years ago. )

Yes, the events of the pilot are supposed to happen about 1 year after the events of the original movie.

Watch the Staragate movie, the one from 1994, then watch the pilot Children of the Gods and go from there.

They did a great job picking up from where the movie left off and making a TV series out of it.

I don't think it's really necessary to watch the original movie to understand the pilot, most of the context is filled in for you. Also, the movie isn't that great (at least in my opinion) and is completely different than the series, so if you do watch the movie and don't like it...don't take that as evidence that you won't like the series either.

I remember that they went though the stargate, met a alien who slept in a sarcophagus to heal himself, had a bunch of slave humans, a bunch of Egyptian themed stuff, then they blow the alien up with a nuclear weapon and most of them go home.

I think that enough to follow as I am about 20 mins into the series...

Actor? No. James Spader played Daniel in the movie, Michael Shanks played him in the series.

The other movies take place after the final season of SG-1, so definitely don't watch those before you watch the rest of the show. They won't make any sense.

It's sooooooooooo bad.

Well It something to look forward to, its still two episodes away as I wasn't clear in that I watched the first episode I ment the movie, not the first actual episode. :bolian:

though It might be a while as I am getting into season 3 of B5 for the first time, and its really good.

Oh yeah, you're not gonna want to watch SG-1 right now. I would definitely focus your efforts on B5, especially if you're starting Season 3.
