Watching for the last time...

The Laughing Vulcan

Not everyone likes everything, not even when it comes to Star Trek, which let's face it is a broad church. When I was first into it, I religiously bought everything, books, videos, CDs the works. It's only later, following maturity, that I started to look on these things with a more critical eye, and found that some aspects of Star Trek I'm not particularly fond of. I've gradually upgraded my collection to disc from tape, but now I come to Star Trek Voyager, which I bought as it was released. And I find I have no desire to get the DVDs. But I have to get rid of the VHS tapes, I'm screaming for reclaimed storage space...

So this is my last run through of Star Trek Voyager. I've dug out the old VHS player, and I'll watch them then throw them away. And then never think of Voyager again.

Then again, I thought I'd never buy Star Trek Nemesis after watching it in the cinema, and then I wind up getting the Stardate Collection...

Have you had a last experience with a Trek franchise?

I think watching Enterprise during it's original airing was my first and last time. I would never say never but right now I have no desire to go back and re-watch it. I have toyed with the idea of reading some of the re-launch books but that's for some point in the future.

I have not re-watched Insurrection or Nemesis since I first saw them in the theaters.

There are countless episodes in each series that I will not re-watch. I go so far as to pretend they don't exist.

Have you had a last experience with a Trek franchise?

No, absolutely not. Even the episodes I consider the worst in the franchise [A Night in Sickbay, Threshold] are still watchable to me because it is Trek and I find that more satisfying than any other form of entertainment.

I love all the series dearly and I have often mused that I will watch them 'till I die.

Never say never. To be honest, I only rewatch TOS with any regularity these days, but occasionally I'll dip into the latter-day series for research and/or nostalgia's sake. Can't imagine that I'll never sample TNG or the other shows again.

Enterprise is the only one I don't ever rewatch but I'll probably giuve it another bash at some point.

I bought Star Trek 09 on Blu Ray. It's still in the shrink wrap. I don't think I own Into Darkness.

I'm working my way through Star Trek on Netflix. I've pretty much decided I won't be watching Enterprise.

I stopped reading the novels years ago. They were not canon, nothing ever permanently changed or had an impact. and horrible authors (in my opinion) kept getting approval to write books. I also stopped reading Star Wars novels for the same reasons.

But, yeah, never say never.

And you are wise to do so. The series boldly tries to re-write TOS through out it's run. The designs for the NX-01 look more advanced than the starship class, at the time but altered on ENT/ another retcon, developing an engineering room which would make Scotty jealous. TNG tech-lingo was transplanted into Enterprise, but it's a integrated to what supposed to be a prequel to Star Trek???
Star Trek was a work in progress, and as the series progressed the words for tech had been defined but not embracing what those classic producers developed like for example: Space Warp Propulsions and retconning it to nacelles is not right.

The communicator was sleek and advanced, while it should've looked bulky and not as nifty.

I had my issues with JJTrek, but I respect about them was they made attempts to rewrite what was done in the Star Trek universe; they had enough respect to create a new world and universe where they can play with whatever they wanted without ruining what was done in the past.

What does that mean? "Nacelle" is a real word used for an engine enclosure, such as on an airplane. There's no reason why the word shouldn't be used for the things sticking out of starships. In fact, it was used in the TOS episodes "The Doomsday Machine" and "Bread and Circuses."

Star Trek: Enterprise was supposed to be before The Doomsday Machine" and "Bread and Circuses", they should be using the tech name before the use of name nacelles.

"Nacelle" is a descriptive word that's been used for a long time in the real-world aeronautics field. I really don't see what the issue is.

Space Warp Propulsion was used first then later Nacelle; it was a nod to NASA's spacecraft propulsion.

Nah...I love Star Trek to varying degrees. I've never seen all of VOY or ENT because I just can't maintain interest...but I'm going to keep trying.

But I'll never say "never!"

You're mixing up two separate things. Yes, the whole system is certainly called "warp propulsion."

But the individual pods that are situated away from the main hull and contain the propulsion hardware are nacelles.

The nacelles are part of the warp system. Each individual nacelle is not a "space warp propulsion." That's not even how the word "propulsion" is used.

That's a retcon and those specifics were defined retroactively, Star Trek was a work in progress and they didn't have everything tied up neatly. A prequel should not be defined as if it's set in stone, it should be a work in progress.

Nope. Never had a last experience with a series. And I never saw any of the movies in theaters. Only Blue Ray/DVDs. Well, I watched TWoK in theaters but that was after I watched the DVD.
Well, since I have so little of Voyager, watching "Endgame" in the Borg Fan Collective (DVD) was my last experience so far. But I intent on watching more. The same is true for Enterprise with "In a Mirror, Darkly" except I am not sure I want to watch more of it (except what I already have in its fourth season and the various fan collectives).
