okay barns and noble has a great deal on dvd's this week so I am picking up the 1963 pilot which is in a box set with two other dvd's is there a recomended viewing order? I have never seen the first three doctor's in action before so I think this will be fun.

:techman::bolian::wtf::wtf::wtf::eek::eek::eek:

The order would be, An uneartly child, The Daleks, edge of destruction....

Here are some more must have serials..
Hartnell must have...
The Aztecs.
The Time meddler
The war machine.

Troughton must have...
The mind robber.
The Invasion(Missing episodes have been animated)
The seeds of death.
The Tomb of the cybermen.
The war game.

Pertwee must have...
The green death.
The claws of axon.
The three doctors.
Spear head from space.
Inferno.
The time warrior.
Carnival of monsters.

Just a few off the top opf my head.

For the order. Note that there's a few that have yet to be released and a few that may never be released due to no/missing episodes, unless the upcoming "reign of terror" release(animated reconstruction of missing eps) is a big success or BBC up the budget.

Good list, I would add The Romans(hilarious) and The Space Museum(great concept) to this.

"The Daleks" is by far the best serial of the 1st doctor era, and it's a shame the other 1st Doctor Dalek serials failed to live up to it.

"The Dalek Invasion Of Earth" was much better IMO.

wow thanks for that I never seen the real earlly episodes so this will be fun.

Honestly, is there no punctuation at all where you're from?

well as I was growing up we got dr.who on pbs and I started watching with the fourth dr. tom baker <(is that right) and then we finally just recently got bbc america and started watch dr.who agin with the 9th relaunch and then torchwood. which I really like. sy fy did play the sara jane smith season one but that was it. I plan to get those shows on dvd as well.

dont forget 'K9' the series made last year in australia. I was dubious, but ended up finding it to be a great series...and there were many more episodes in the season, at least 24 or 26 i think.

Region 2 & 4.

Has nothing to do with the bbc & is not connected to Who/Torchwood, can't directly reference etc, and will never be referenced.

The Space Museum really only has a good first episode. After that it's just a silly runaround episode with a very low budget.

For the Dalek stories:
The Daleks - I agree, it's a great story.
The Dalek Invasion of Earth - Lacking cohesion but still a great story. Scattering the characters works only so far, and Hartnell injuring himself and being absent for an episode probably hurt it.
The Chase - Pure nonsence but it's fun nonsence. A slice of 60's Britan rather than a serious Dalek story
Mission to the Unknown - Nice little Dalek story, but doesn't feature the Tardis crew and is missing anyway...
The Daleks Master Plan - Again largely missing but probably could've been a great epic.

I liked the ideas behind the Space Museum, one of the first times they worry about their actions(if just for self preservation), and in a clever way too. I agree the actual conflict was boring, but

Hartnell as a dalek was hilarious.

Chase was too hyperactive. The opening section was boring and the middle section was pretty weird(especially the house - I assume this is what you mean by a product of the sixties) - the final section was very good though.

I haven't watched the extant master plan episodes, I'm still hoping BBC at some point will step in to pay for larger scale animated reconstructions.

well, even if they cant directly mention the doctor, it's still in the same universe, for sure. K-9 is still voiced by leeson and the episodes have a very 'SJA' vibe...

I feel like you misunderstood the question.

Yeah. What does watching "Doctor Who" when you were growing up have to do with having proper punctuation? Not to mention the fact that timothy could have found that list just as easily as zarkdon posted it.

Animations are really only being considered for shows with more than 50% of their footage remaining, so The Reign of Terror, The Tenth Planet, The Ice Warriors, The Invasion. Ones with only half the eps left (The Crusade, The Moonbase) only got audio releases.

The BBC wouldn't fund a DVD that they had to remake 9 of the 12 episodes!

Sadly.

Tenth planet is the most important one to potentially get the treatment. Wonder if they'll ape the original change or the one introduced in nuwho.

Still holding out hope this is related.

Forlorn hope probably.
