Was there anything that JJ really messed up on? (Spoilers)

and why is it that a franchise that goes out of its way to create the most outlandish looking aliens possible continues to use so many locations that just look like earth? Where are the alien plants and the alien skies, etc

In "The Clone Wars" :bolian:

I agree with most of your post, but I love the ST09 description. Can I quote that?
Sure. :mallory:

As for disabling the Republic... In the scene where the Republic planets get blown up, you do see some ships in space getting vaporized too (you have to look closely; I missed it the first time). Was the entire Republic fleet disabled/destroyed? This is one instance where I wish there had been a bit more expository dialog.

The only thing that really bothered me about the film was Vader's mask. Not only do I find it odd that someone would leave the Vader suit sitting around to be taken, but... was his helmet made out of plastic? I mean, I know the mask used in filming was plastic, but in the actual Star Wars universe, did Vader really wear a helmet made out of plastic??? I figured it would be something a bit more protective, and not something Tupperwear is made out of.

Silly, I now. But my mind picks up on a lot of irrelevant crap.

Maybe it's some kind of super-high-density polymer that is different from the plastics we usually deal with here on Earth.

Does the Sahara take away from the Mojave?
If you've ever been to both of those deserts, you'd know they couldn't be more dissimilar aside from the temperatures. Jakku is Tattooine with a lot of crashed junk on it. There's very little different between the two other than that.

Could be. But if the helmet is melted by a wood fire, it would do next to nothing against a light-saber or laser blast.

Just a nitpick though. I think that showing Vader's helmet melted was done to drive home the point that as powerful as Vader was, he was defeated in the end.

^Exactly. The symbolism of the iconic Vader mask, twisted and ghostly grey sitting on a black pedestal is much more important here than the physics of metallurgy.

Anyway, everyone knows Endor tree bark is 40% thermite. How do you think Luke lost all the synthflesh off of his cybernetic hand? ;)

Well, Endor also did have fiery debris raining down from the Death Star's explosion. A giant piece obviously took out the pyre, ironically, it was a portion of the Emperor's throne room ;)

I have a hard time trying to find something to nitpick. I would have loved to see more Maz. The fact that Captain Phasma had virtually nothing to do but stand around in armor was a bit annoying, but other than that the film was quite excellent.

I don't know if they were trying to make Phasma the next Boba Fett by not having her do much, but if so they should have skipped the part with her being captured.

FN-2199 is probably died after that bowcaster bolt.

One wonders if it was a Space Battleship Yamato 2199 reference.
