Was "The Fight" a badly written episode?

I don't think it was even that strong a premise. Episodes about people being unconscious and having to fight metaphorical battles in their brain are crutchy at best, and it seems like it only got in because somebody on the Voyager writing staff liked Boothby way too much.

I liked the idea of Chaotic Space and aliens who found a way to communicate but since I don't give a rat's ass about boxing, I snored through the metaphors. In the end when chakotay finally understood why he was in that state, that's when I regained conscientiousness. It's not a skip for me today but I don't watch it on it's own.

One of my bottom three Star Trek episodes ever, along with ENT: "Fusion" and I don't even remember the other right now.

The Fight is one of those episodes I don't care that much about. It's not a cringe-worthy 'I hate it and will never watch it again' episode for me. I did like seeing Boothby again and the 'chaotic space' scene at the end was kind of cool' but apart from that, could have been a lot better.

I remember thinking the concept of Chaotic space was interesting but for me personally Beltran spoils the episode. I think it would have been better with a different character/actor.

Whenever I see "The Fight" on my netflix queue, I always scrolled by it because the only thing I remembered about the episode was Chakotay boxing with Boothby. I decided to watch it again for the hell of it a few nights ago and I can sum up the entire plot of this 40ish minute experience in about two words

"Tri-metric Fracture"

I admire episodes that think outside of the box(ing). So I take a sympathetic view of this episode even if it misfired somewhat.

Given that it was incomprehensible and one of those episodes I only watch on a re-watch just to be complete, I'd say yeah, it was a bad episode. The same as all the Chakotay-centered episodes which the exception of that seventh season one whose name escapes me. You know, the one where he travels all over Voyager and it's a different time on each deck.
