Was Scotty's career path altered?

According to Memory Alpha Scotty began his career in Starfleet 2241 and served on several ships and possibly outposts including the freight line from Deneva colony. Here in Trek XI we see he is assigned to a lonely station on Delta Vega with one other crewman doing what we can only guess is routing maintenance work on whatever is there. He also has the rank of Lt Commander.

Apart from the obvious that it appears he's now assigned to the Enterprise at an earlier point than usual (MA states he only joined by 2265) was the assingment to Delta Vega, and his research into Transwarp Transporting which got him assigned to DV in the first place, a result of any changes in the timeline due to the destruction of the Kelvin or was it something that Prime Scotty also did?

Admiral Archer's beagle was transported to where the Kelvin would have been 25 years later had the dastardly Nero not destroyed it. In the Real Universe, the beagle would have been recovered and all would have been forgotten, instead Scotty became a tit and was sent to Delta Vega.
