Was Chris Hemsworth considered for James T. Kirk?

Anyone know if Chris Hemsworth was considered for James T. Kirk? I gotta figure he was in the running. He's about the same age as Chris Pine and he look a lot like Shatner. He seems to be getting a lot of attention after ST (Thor) these days.

I reckon he auditioned for Kirk Jr but ended up with Kirk Sr.

I think he would have done a good job as Kirk Jr actually, he certainly looks the part (moreso than Pine) and did well during his 10 minutes.

Chris Hemsworth is 6'3," so maybe too tall. He'd be taller than Quinto and Nimoy. (Chris Pine and Leonard Nimoy are both 6'1"; Quinto is 6'2".) Chris Hemsworth's accent they could deal with, but there's no disguising his height.

But yes, if you check the posts from sneak-preview night (May 7), it was apparent right away that the casting was superb -- and that they found more than one person who looked like Kirk.

I think Chris Hemsworth is 22 years old versus Pine at 29 and Quinto 30 (?). Hemsworth is too young to play Kirk (even by Hollywood standards0, but I do think he and Pine look alike, so I can see why the producers/writers went with the father/son angle.

Hemsworth is 25 IIRC. I remember being surprised that he was the same age as me, when he looked quite a bit older.

I can see that. The height thing would be a problem

Hemsworth = 25; Pine = 28, Quinto = 32.

They were all a year and a half younger when they started shooting ;). 2 years younger the day they were cast than they are today in some cases.
But they were certainly all fine in their roles. I think on sheer talent it could've worked.

But...

Even in the Abramsverse, I think you can cast a Kirk who's only an inch shorter than Spock, but you can't cast a Kirk who's taller than Spock. That just seems so ...wrong!

Yes, as über cool as Faran Tahir and Captain Robau are, Chris Hemsworth just towered over him in their famous "walk with me" to the turbolift. Faran Tahir is 5'10".

But Captain Robau stole the scene anyway. What presence!

I think he probably went for Kirk, then they asked him back for Kirk Snr. I think his frame was too big for Kirk, Pine suited it a lot more at around 6 foot.

If they can take John Rhys-Davies and turn him into a dwarf im sure they can handle taking a 6 foot 3 tall dude and making him look 6 foot 1 :p

Actually...not easily, no.

They accomplished that in LOTR by casting 5'5" to 5'7" "hobbits" who stood next to the 6'2"" "dwarf" and the 7'4" human/elf stand-ins. ;) No digital wizzardy involved for many of those shots. Conversely, when the actors playing the "humans" and "elves" were in frontal shots, the short stand-ins were costumed as hobbits and dwarf(s). Once of those little stand-ins plays Keenser in XI you know. Gotta save your FX $$s for where they do the most good.

With Hemsworth you'd have to put Quinto in heeled boots. Can't see that myself. Plus he's larger framed.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Hemsworth. He made an incredible impression with very little oncsreen time. He's one of the yummiest hot ones from XI.
