Was anyone else expecting some big reveal with the Breen?

Welcome to the Trek BBS @the fly one!

You probably didn't notice, but this thread has been inactive for over four years. As a rule we ask members not to resurrect a thread if it has been dormant for more than a year. In future if you see an old thread like this that you'd like to discuss feel free to create a new thread and link back to any relevant content from the old thread if necessary.

Having said that, as a new member of our community you can't be expected to know all the rules yet so I'll leave this thread open for now.

Happy posting! :)

I always thought it would have been funny if they were revealed to look like mere humans, the helmets being just a way to scare others.

Did Weyoun even know what they looked like? That said there was a good video on YouTube about the Breen and speculating what they could've been like given it is specified they don't have blood.

It would have been nice. I enjoyed the mysticism of the Breen and its possible that the powers that be didn't want to ruin that. I think the first time they were mentioned on screen was in Generations. The discovery of disruptor fire on the Amargosa observatory had Riker narrowing the list of possible assailants as Romulan, Breen or Klingon. I don't remember any other mention of them on screen until the Dominion War. There is considerable information about them in the Typhon Pact book series but even than there is still a lot of mystery surrounding the Breen.

Agreed, TPTB. Everyone knows that "they've Breen there, done that" with other enemy species and with all the shows in development or on air, they didn't want to overload things or keep them as a standby in the event the Dominion or 8472 or the giant mutant strawberry monsters didn't enthrall the viewers. Oh wait, that last one didn't make it to Trek either. Pity... CKandyman would make a fun crossover... :D

They were hinting toward a reveal, but never got around to it. The Breen were kind of disappointing, a stock villain who we couldn't see or understand. I wonder if they had something in mind, but the end of Season 7 was just too busy to put it on the screen, or if they really had nothing in mind that would have been interesting enough to be worth the screen time.

We had Weyoun talking about how their homeworld isn't really the frozen wasteland that had been alluded to in past episodes. We had him wondering what they look like under those suits. We had Sisko and Martok talking about how mysterious they were.

Did anyone else expect there to be some big reveal, rather than just being a new ally for the Dominion?
Yeah I really wished they had shown a Breen! Especially considering the easy opportunity even early on when Dukat and Kira save his daughter from the prison camp. Both are wearing Breen uniforms but they skipped over the part where they clocked them over the head and took of the mask this was a big let down

I was really disappointed by the Breen overall in the D.S.9.. They might as well been a species called the McGuffins.

Looking back now, it was nothing more than an attempt to throw kinks into the woodwork of the plot without having to do masterful writing to accomplish it, using a species we knew next to nothing about that looked "Cool".

Disappointed. I was expecting more in appearance than a Star Wars rip-off. My brothers would joke whether Carrie Fisher would appear to reveal she was part of the Breen race.

Personally I thought it was great that they remained enigmas throughout the series.

Though I also love the world-building the novels have done with them.

Yeah, I was kind of disappointed that there were never any universe-shaking revelations involving the Breen.
