Was a reboot inevitable?

ID was also the most expensive to make; given that the highest box office still can be and was disappointing, less successful or not more successful than many previous Trek films (the ones supposedly bogged down by excessive continuity and not appealing enough to general audiences).

I liked the first JJ Star Trek film, found the second to be a bit dull and haven't seen the third film yet if ever!

Why does it have to be either/or? Why can't it be 85% Prime with a 15% fudge factor :)
I recall an analysis of the space operas written by Andre Norton. People found it difficult to find a coherent timeline. Because there wasn't one-the different novels depicted over lapping universes.

It shouldn't have been. Just an example of more people out of ideas on how to reinvent and reimagine the thing. First you got to find another Gene Roddenberry (good luck with that) and then turn his franchise into Star Trek. It's not like he invented the space opera.
