Warped9's Frontier....

Ah, the never-before seen TOS scenes have always been a favorite. They almost deserve an entire section to themselves. :techman:

^^ I'm thinking on how I'll incorporate them. They could have their own section devoted to things we never got to see. Some of the scenes will deal with events between episodes or before/after the series. And some can be enhanced versions of things we did see.

As long as you maintain a fair balance of perspectives in your historical assessment, I think you're entitled to reach your own conclusions, right? :)
Well, there are some who might be inclined to disagree.

Hell if it's a critical analysis, I think Warped9 is entitled to his own conclusions throughout the article so long as he states his intentions in his opening paragraph, provides a thesis, and gives support from the shows.

This is his bailiwick. I say he goes all out even if I or anyone else disagrees with him.

Looks good, Warped9, though perhaps you meant the Gamma Quadrant in your point about Deep Space Nine.

Yeah, looks really good, Warped9. I also think you meant Gamma Quadrant, but I really like the roads-not-taken outline. Very intriguing. :)

At this point I'm avoiding any roads not traveled in regards to Trek XI. Sometimes you just can't really talk about these things until they die down some and when emotions aren't running so high...in both directions.

Stuff I'm presently working on.

- My perspective on "roads not traveled."
- a 20th to 23rd century chronology
- is Trek all one continuity or separate continuities? (this isn't really the same as canon)

I breached this subject some years ago and it really raised some hackles around here.

Basically I've come to the conclusion that instead of getting a migraine trying to force fit all the Trek series and films together in some credible way I think what we really saw were different continuities with similar elements. Alternate realities if you will.

That could also give you some insight into my sig: Star Trek 1964-1979. Because essentially I think the version of Star Trek after TMP shifted in some ways and then the nature of it wasn't quite the same any longer.

You could even argue that TMP isn't of the same continuity as TOS for that matter.

I think that the TOS era as seen from the perspective of TWoK onward or TNG onward isn't quite the same as the TOS we're familiar with. On the flip side I could argue that the post TOS eras bear some semblance to what we saw unfold but isn't actually the same thing we literally saw. It goes without saying that I contend that ENT is definitely not the prehistory to TOS although it might be in regards to TWoK or TNG onward.

You know, I've suggested before that each show (or era, at least - ENT, TOS/TAS, TOS movies, TNG/DS9/VGR) might be a part of its own slightly different "quantum reality" that would allow for show-to-show (or, era to era) inconsistencies, wherein basic major elements would remain the same (unless there was a timeline divergence at work) but other details (visual, etc.) might vary. I have been met with similar... less that warm reactions to that. :shifty:

I once had a long article written on this very subject, but I'm having a hard time finding it. I just may have to start from scratch again.

I've started polishing off my chronology. I'm fleshing out some parts and adding images somewhat like the Pocket Books Chronology in format only with colour pics.

Part of what I'm doing will also include events from the episodes within specific years. My perspective is that TOS and TAS are pretty much the bulk of the 5-year voyage. WNMHGB happens about a year before the ship's refit and the 5-year voyage.

Although I may not actually specify it my hunch is that when Kirk took over from Pike the ship could well not have been back at Earth. Rather it seems more likely to me that they were already out there over some Starbase.

I also want to use some of my photomanipped images for the chronology.

I already have some made, but I'm likely going to redo them for better results. One of them includes a shot of Kirk and Pike together in something of a transfer of command sequence.

I love the concept of this site. Very interesting article!

May I ask (I didn't see this anywhere but I may have missed it), why not launch the site with the info you have now, and then add to it as you go? You've got some great content already, and it'd encourage folks to keep checking back as you add in new content.

Also, when you do launch the site, what do you plan on using for design? Are you going to design the HTML yourself? Use a CMS like Wordpress? I'm curious to see how this will all end up.

I'll be using either Apple's iWeb or Adobe's Dreamweaver to build the site.

Presently I'm deep into updating my chronology and should have something to share in a few days.
