Warped by K.W. Jeter

I don't get the hate or active dislike the book seems to elicit. There are unfortunately a rather large number of Trek novels as equally mediocre as this.

I'm usually quite positive about ST novels. I don't classify too many as mediocre. But this one ("Warped") was tedious to read. Similarly, I found "The Laertian Gamble", the "Rebels" (ugh) trilogy and TNG's "Into the Nebula" almost equally as tedious.

^To Valeris:
No wonder you're a traitor like your namesake! My eyes! My eyes!

I'm pretty sure I read the Laertian Gamble in a single day, but yeah, that Rebels trilogy was a slogger. I honestly think it was even weirder than Warped.

Usually I'll read a Trek novel all the way through, no matter how bad it is, but the Rebels trilogy took the cake. Again, the characters were not acting anything like themselves, there were inconsistencies with the show (i.e. the Cardassians having a "henchman" race doing all their dirty work), and the story just made very little sense. The weird thing was that the trilogy's author, Dafydd ab Hugh, had previously written a very good DS9 novel, "Fallen Heroes." I had a hard time believing it was the same author, as the writing styles were very different also.

Generally, if I can't remember something I've watched or read, it means it was really bad, or very unremarkable.

I think Warped might have been a bit of both.
