Warner Bros Considering Developing The Dark Knight Returns Animated?

Re: Warner Bros Considering Developing The Dark Knight Returns Animate

I can imagine Conroy or Keaton voicing this movie (if they ever make it) but as TDKR is very much outside of any other Batman continuity, I would prefer if they got someone new to do it. It's very hard to imagine Keaton's Batman from the Burton movies maturing into the Batman of this story. Okay, I know no-one would be trying to suggest that this is a continuation, but to me it would be a little distracting.

Some years ago, UK radio attempted to do a broadcast of this; they initially tried for Clint Eastwood but then David Soul was supposed to be Batman. I don't think it ever went ahead - at least, it's not on Soul's IMDB page.

I wonder how big a name they could land for a project like this. It's probably (in fact, almost certainly) a pipe-dream, but I'd like to hear a Harrison Ford, Robert Redford, Bruce Willis or Kurt Russell-calibre actor voice Batman for this.

They should get Clooney.

Seriously though, in all likelihood, they'll get a B or C level star with some "street cred" just like all the previous DCA films.

Professor Zoom, all of your counterpoints were very well said!! Thanks for opening my eyes a bit more. :bolian:

Oh, thanks.

I'm with you though, I hope it's a good adaptation. But, WB animation has done a pretty great job so far, so, I'm pretty hopeful.

Actually, maybe that would be George's chance to atone for B&R; I think he could do the role justice. But yes, you're almost certainly correct about the Cred-worthy B/C lister.

Re: Warner Bros Considering Developing The Dark Knight Returns Animate

I would like Ironside, Clooney, or Keaton. Personally though if this is green lit and announced I think they will go for someone unconventional that we've not thought about to match their mandate. Much like Bruce Greenwood was an unconventional choice or "Under the Red Hood" and "Young Justice". I think Rutger Hauer would be an outstanding choice.

Re: Warner Bros Considering Developing The Dark Knight Returns Animate

Rutger Hauer's an interesting choice. Yes, I can "hear" that.

If were casting unconventional, Willem Dafoe would be my top choice, with John Malkovich as my highly-unlikely choice.

Re: Warner Bros Considering Developing The Dark Knight Returns Animate

How about Tom Berenger?

Re: Warner Bros Considering Developing The Dark Knight Returns Animate

^ Yeah, I can see that. In fact, I suggested him for a live-action version over in one of the other myriad Batman threads going on elsewhere. Don't know why I forgot to mention him in this one!

Re: Warner Bros Considering Developing The Dark Knight Returns Animate

Ruter Hauer is actually my choice for Old Bruce in a live action "Batman Beyond" movie. After seeing the trailers for "Hobo With a Shotgun" I think he'd be great in that role.

Re: Warner Bros Considering Developing The Dark Knight Returns Animate

Lance Henrikson! It's got be the ultimately gravelly voice.

Re: Warner Bros Considering Developing The Dark Knight Returns Animate

You just wait till you hear who they've cast as the Joker. Genre fans are going to love it.

That makes it sound like it won't be Mark Hamill. Who would genre fans love? John Glover? Brad Dourif? Bill Mumy? Rene Auberjonois? Doug Jones?

Re: Warner Bros Considering Developing The Dark Knight Returns Animate

I thought this was just something they were talking about maybe developing, question mark. So where's this talk of "who they've cast" coming from?

So Eastwood is out? ;)

Re: Warner Bros Considering Developing The Dark Knight Returns Animate

if they cant get conroy they should get adam west to do it.. its not like hes not voice acting over on family guy.... and frank millers grim and gritty bats is what killed endless reruns of batman 60s on tv and in the comics... if this was ever adapted to the movies after the next nolan movie i think clint eastwood could still play a convincing older batman, aided by cgi of course....

batman 60s show weird fact: clint eastwood was at one point considered to play harvey dent two face but it was felt the character was too dark.

Re: Warner Bros Considering Developing The Dark Knight Returns Animate

Adam West is a better actor than he's often given credit for, but I can't imagine him being the right choice for Frank Miller's Dark Knight. For one thing, audiences that have been conditioned to associate his voice with camp and comedy (as much from his career of self-parody over the past decade or two as from the '60s Batman itself) would never accept it.

The way you emphasize "love" there must be a clue.

Clearly, the leading candidate for the Joker is Mike Meyers, star of The Love Guru.

:guffaw:
