Warner bros announce superhero films through 2020

Lol they hate Captain Marvel so much that they are making a big budget movie about him, because that's a great way to kill a character...

ERRR... WTF?

Sam Raimi still made great movies before Spider-Man, even if they weren't high budget you could tell he could easily handle characters that like to quip and that he could do a lot with only a little.

That still did not give him the credentials to handle what could only be a high-concept, big budget superhero film production like Spider-Man. Someone else mentioned Peter Jackson, and like Raimi, his early work was low-rent and not particularly impressive, but both made some of the best fantasy films of the past twenty years. Again, anything is possible.

But, this is the same company that hires hacks like Zach Snyder and David Ayer

There would be no DC film universe without Snyder and the vision and tone which runs through all of the DC films (including Wonder Woman, which Jenkins has no trouble admitting). He's set a tone not ape-ing the Power Rangers/stand-up model of the MCU, and that's been a great thing for the DC film universe.

Are you seriously trying to say that without Hack Snyder DC would never have jumped aboard the Cinematic Universe trend? That is so bullshit its hilarious. They were going to do a shared Universe because the MCU was making money, and so were the FOX movies. Green Lantern was an attempt at it, and even though it failed WB was going to keep trying. They probably would have been off to a much better start if they hadn't botched GL and then learned the wrong lessons from Nolan's Batman movies and suddenly thought that dark, grim and gritty will make all of their superhero movies successful. As it is, they entered the race with a huge disadvantage because of Snyder's shit and only with Wonder Woman are they starting to seem like they may some day reach a level where they can be called a real factor in superhero cinematic universes.

I'll just mention that there is no way Fant4stic or Wolverine Origins were made by people who actually liked the properties, yet they got made. That's basically FOX's MO nowadays, throw shit against the wall with characters they don't really care about and hope some money comes their way. DC will do anything they think will get them money, even if they go about it all wrong and just end up with more cinematic disasters. My only comfort is that "Shazam" isn't Batman v Superman, its not going to make a huge profit when it bombs like the pile of crap it is.

Better for the real Captain Marvel to fade away then to have to suffer the DCEU. Luckily, he's already gone from the comics with Rebirth because geoff Johns' rancid shit of a character called "Shazam" was just unpleasant and doesn't fit with DC's Rebirth universe, and hopefully his movie will either not get made or it will also bomb the character back into limbo, where at least people won't keep piling shit on my favorite superhero (well, "Shazam" is a shit character but the real, original Captain Marvel is my favorite superhero and even a shitty, barely connected version deserves better).

I have no sympathy for bad directors or really anyone who works for DC. His movie will be shit, and it will probably be around 50% his fault and 50% the fault of DC/Geoff Johns. The only question is how bad will it be and what parts will be the most offensively bad. Will it come off like a cheap horror movie, like his normal work? Will it have a focus on the main character being a horrible person, like the Shazam Geoff Johns wrote? Will it be Geoff Johns shit mixed with Snyder's pretentious, stupid grimdark? Or will it be the terrible New 52ish stuff mixed with stuff from crap horror films?

If it was any other character, I might be morbidly curious to see how bad it will be and how badly it screws up its source material. But, its a movie vaguely based on my favorite hero, so its just infuriating.

Your hatred of Snyder blinds you to the fact that he was a successful director who knew how to bring new life to genres, as witnessed with his DC film universe. Looking back, in 2004, it was largely Snyder's vision in the Dawn of the Dead reimagining that created an entirely new face to the zombie genre, certainly opening influential ground to everything to follow--specifically The Walking Dead juggernaut (certainly more than 2002's pretentious 28 Days Later) and endless, other zombie movie & TV productions.

The Green Lantern trash was made by incompetent writers, producers and a director who knew as much about the subject as a pencil is familiar with driving a car. There was no way the film--long before its release--could be an accepted part of a DC film universe. Nolan's Bat-films set the right direction in mixing fantasy with a real world audiences would see as familiar, instead of the jokey, overblown Transformers-esque mess that is most MCU films.

Snyder--realizing that the grit and realistic approach works--set that tone for the DC films, including Wonder Woman, (no Guardians, Avengers or the Carter Wonder Woman "wink and a smile" TV series) which (to mention again and again) Jenkins admitted. No film is created in a vacuum. Its part of the entire DCEU tapestry up to this point.

No, it's not. Not in that person's opinion and not in mine.

Not someone that immediately jumped out as the character for me, but he's a good actor so I'm optimistic. I wonder if he'll try to buff up at all?

So Shazam has been cast and it’s not one of the rumoured names, it’s:

Zachary Levi

:rommie: Holy shit, that's terrible. The guy looks like a kitten could kick his ass. This sure as hell is the actor this crap movie deserves. At least they're not dragging any worthwhile actor down with this pile of shit. The people who made this casting choice are either being blackmailed by Chuck or are taking literally every drug humanity has invented. I can't even be mad, since this casting choice is so terrible it fits this disaster of a film perfectly.

I can't wait to see who they cast as, say, Dr. Sivana or Mary Marvel. I'm guessing they'll go with someone like Seth Rogen as Dr. Sivana and someone like Michelle Rodriguez as Mary Marvel. Actually, that's ridiculous. Those two casting choices, while purposefully stupid, are still better then casting fucking Chuck as "Shazam".

I'd say Chuck was kind of borderline superhero too. Didn't he even get an upgrade towards the end that gave him some kind of enhanced powers or something?

I dunno, I lost interest after the first few episodes. But from what little I recall, I think the point of his character there was that he was an unlikely action hero, a skinny, nerdy guy who kind of stumbled into it. It's quite a change from that to play a character with the strength of Hercules and the stamina of Atlas. (Note: I'm not saying he can't do it -- as remarked, buffing up or slimming down for roles is part of what actors do. I'm just observing that there's a wide difference there.)

Don't really know his work. People do seem to love Chuck, though. I can see him as the Big Red Cheese, though based on pictures.
Chris Reeve before he was cast as Superman wasn't exactly, well...Superman. He buffed up and dyed his his hair to get the right look. I'm sure Levi can do the same.

I just checked on Wikipedia, and he did get an upgrade that gave him martial arts and other abilities. He also played Fandral in the second (and possibly third) Thor movies, and if I remember correctly a fairly action heavy role Heroes Reborn, so he does already have plenty of experience with similar roles.
I seem remember some people saying Gal Galdot was a horrible choice for Wonder Woman, and look how that turned out. I've been happy with pretty much all of the rest of the casting in the DCEU, so I trust them to know what they are doing casting Levi.
