War for the Planet of the Apes pre-release thread

Ceasar was the first ape to speak, so it could just be that his skill have been developing a lot quicker.
How many of the apes have we heard speak so far? The only two I can remember for sure are Ceasar and Koba. Has Rocket spoken so far? I know Maurice seems to be pretty fluent in sign language.
I keep wondering what they'll do for Maurice's voice if he ever starts speaking. He's played by woman, and I don't know if her voice would really work for a big male like Maurice.

Maurice spoke briefly in DAWN after Caesar was shot by Koba. He told Malcolm and Ellie to run for their lives.

We have a new "sneak peek" video, which combines historical footage with footage from the first two movies. The end of the clip teases a "final trailer" coming out tomorrow.

That is obviously Charlton Heston's voice but not from either of his two appearances in the Apes film series. I looked it up and it's from the audio book of his biography.

Oh, duh. I recognized his voice when I watched the teaser earlier today but I couldn't place it eithe

Final trailer, where we got more details about the little girl:

I can't wait. :D

I hope that this Apes movie is more memorable than the last 2 or 3 (can't even remember how many). They were pretty good while I was watching them but I can't even tell you their plots unlike the original 5 movies.

Looks great. I'm glad to see Judy Greer appears to actually be getting some dialogue this time. I'm a huge fan of hers and I was really disappointed in how little she did in Dawn.

Not counting the Tim Burton remake, which was its own thing, this is the third film in the new trilogy. To recap:

RISE: The one where James Franco's experimental drug leads to the creation of Caesar, more super-intelligent apes, and a virus that (in the closing scenes) wipes out most of humanity.

DAWN: Ten years later, after the collapse of civilization, Caesar and his apes try to make peace with a small community of human survivors. It doesn't end well . . .

Which brings us to WAR.

Overall, I quite like these movies. The originals I felt were quite philosophical, and the Tim Burton kind of dropped that angle when he made his, so I was glad to see that returning in these movies. I like the explorations of the ape culture.

Along with episode 8, this is the film I'm looking forward to the most this year. The first two are outstanding films, with great drama and morality woven through them. If war is as good, then that's a brilliant trilogy of movies we've been treated to, and I also think they are very underrated.

My only concerns I have at this point is the film being too action packed, sure I want to see some conflict but what I'm really interested in is seeing the story progress in the way dawn did after rise. Too many ape v human battles will spoil what these films are really about. They're at the beginning of a new civilisation, they can go literally anywhere with the story.

In other words, Rise showed the dawn of a new race of apes, and Dawn showed its rise. Which is why I have the damnedest time remembering which title goes with which movie.
I love these films but I agree the titles are annoying for the first two.

I'm very excited for War. I think this is one of the most underrated franchises going on right now.
Same here. I'm surprised it doesn't get as much attention as it should considering the level of care is put into every aspect of these films, from the acting, writing, and directing to the set production, cinematography, and stop-capture performances with CGI. And while it'll never happen, I continuously hope the Academy will finally recognize Andy Serkis in some form.

I do worry about that, but I'm hoping that after this film, the direction of the series will change considering the escalation of the titles. Unless the next one is called The Armageddon of the Planet of the Apes, which would just be ridiculous. I know they're not intending to eventually lead up to original film's set-up (nor should they), but I do want to see greater forward progression of ape civilization.

I have to admit, I've been getting a little worried too, but so far they seem to have had some good balance between the two. I particularly like the scene in the second one when Ceasar is talking to his son after he's hurt. That was particularly poignant and it's this kind of exploration and intimacy that I've been impressed with. In a way, both these movies and the original set, are trekish in the approaches to their exploration.
