Wanderlust

that sounds awesome!! I've always wanted to go there but I hear it's rather expensive as you need to hire a car to get around. Gas prices on our half of the planet are quite hefty, compared to the US.
Be sure to bring some good mosquito spray - in summer there are gazillions of black flies (buffalo gnats) and like everyone else they love foreign food ;)

I can't go to iceland myself out of solidarity with one of my sisters who was invited to a meeting in Washington last year (only 12 people in the whole world got an invitation) and then at the last moment her flight got cancelled due to Eyafjallajökull breaking out. She's still pissed with everything Icelandish, though I suggested we'd go there together and throw a really big snowball down into the crater.

Re: Rhubarb - Gas is $4/gal here, I'm sure it costs and arm and a leg there.

I've always wanted to go to Paris.

That reminds me of the South Park episode with Oprah's minge and gary.

Gary: Where... where are we, Mingie? Are we in Paris?

Mingie:Yeah. Yeah, we're in Paris, mate.

Gary:Ahhh... Is it as wonderful as I 'oped?

Mingie:Ih, it's beautiful. We've finally made it!

Gary:Tell me what you see, Mingie.

Mingie:[getting emotional] Well, there's the... Eiffel Tower right in front of us. The Louvre, right over there behind ya. And f-fresh baguettes all around.

Gary:Ahhh... I can smell them, Mingie. At least I got to see Paris before I- [and no more is heard from him]

Mingie:Gary? Gary, say somethin'. [Gary craps his last, or maybe it's just a final fart] You killed him, you bastards! He didn't even want any part in this! This is all your fault, you stupid cow! You never gave your ol' Gary the time of day and now he's gone! Life ain't worth livin' any more! What's the use?! ...I'm comin' to see you, Gary! [the gun is cocked] I'm comin' to see ya!

The overdone accents made them sound even sillier I guess?

I've only been to Europe once. If I end up moving to the West Coast, as I suspect I will in the coming months, that will make it a lot harder to see. Here's it's an overnight direct flight from Boston, not so bad.

Sorry, that was a rhetorical question but the United States has always fascinated me.

@ Smoothie: last time I looked it was around 1.4 Euros/litre (on average. Super costs more, diesel less). That's approximately 5.6 Euros per gallon or 8 bucks per gallon.

@iBender: Paris would be one city I'd love to see! Alas, my French is barely sufficient to read a menu. In every day life I'd be totally lost without an interpretor. Do you speak French?

Awesome pic, btw. If I ever get to Canada, that area will be definitely on my list!

It's a gorgeous area, and not one that's really very well-known, either, sadly. It's actually kind of similar to the Scottish Highlands in some ways; very rugged and not a lot of human settlement. The interior is also home to the only caribou herds south of the St. Lawrence River, which I was lucky enough to see. :)

That must have been impressive!
Judging by the pictures I've seen the area also resembles some regions in Bavaria (though you wouldn't meet caribous there, only gazillions of tourists ;)).
Je ne parle pas bien le Francias, so no.

au contraire, cher ami! I'd count that as a definite yes. At any rate it's much better than my French.
Let me know when you go to LA. I can give you a few insider tips if you like (my ex lives there).

Seeing that you're from London: do you happen to know if that excellent little restaurant in the crypt of St Martin In The Fields still exists? I have a craving for their homemade cakes.

Sure, expose me to the Parisian culture for a few months to a year 'Please' :), and the language will no doubt rub off on me.
I once dated a girl from Irvine, CA; OC an' everything.

I want to move to Paris, find a shanty town near Calais then work my way down 'I'm joking'; but I would love to live & work in Paris, but I wonder if I could do 'meanual' work in France, with out getting deported.

it would depend on what work you're intending to do. With all those wonderful old houses they are sure to always be in need of good craftsmen and conservators.

Guitarist Artist Dancer... So make that Waiter/Dish Cleaner/Dog Walker/Handy Man/Mini Cab Driver... I do need my;
EHIC (E111)
ehic.jpg

I had one, never used it, long expired now.

If I was to work there, I think I'd need an A1 (E101), I think.
I'm just studying this. http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcareabroad/movingabroad/Pages/Workingabroad.aspx

I've been thinking of working abroad but with my parents being old and not that healthy anymore I have to stay close.

As a guitarist/dancer you might be able to get a job at the Opera in Paris. As an artist the competition would propably be too big

^Well I'm from the mean streets of South London, when I tried out for a movie in Brixton at the age of 18, I found it easy, and I was me (A guitarist who knew the director) having fun, working with real actors and actresses from various stage schools all hoping to get this role or that role on this Soap Opera or that Soap Opera, and there's me, a young kid of the street having fun... The competetion may be stiff, but compared to my old hang out, it's just fun, and easy too. The production ran out of money though.

still, it was a start. Who knows - you might become the next Roger Daltrey ;)

But we're drifting pretty far off-topic now and we are monopolizing the thread.

Have you been to any foreign country yet? Or to some really cool place in GB?

Who me?

I started the thread. :) see post #1 :)

I've also been to...
Bristol, England
Bristol, PA
Croydon, England
Croydon, PA
Stoke-On-Trent, England
Leeds, England
Hastings, England
(Various places up and down the British South Coast)
Heathrow Airport (LHR)
Gatwick Airport (LGW)
Philadelphia INTL (PHL)

There are soo many places I'd like to go, it's not even funny how long it'll take for me to list them all. :)

oopsie *blush*
Sorry, as you can see I am in urgent need of that vacation.

I've been to Croydon, too. And to LHR and LGW. And to Kew, Putney, Greenwich and pretty much all over central London.

What's PA like? I've only been to California yet but with the current economical crisis in the US a vacation over there might become cheap enough to be affordable. A coast to coast trip would be cool!
