that sounds awesome!! I've always wanted to go there but I hear it's rather expensive as you need to hire a car to get around. Gas prices on our half of the planet are quite hefty, compared to the US.
Be sure to bring some good mosquito spray - in summer there are gazillions of black flies (buffalo gnats) and like everyone else they love foreign food

I can't go to iceland myself out of solidarity with one of my sisters who was invited to a meeting in Washington last year (only 12 people in the whole world got an invitation) and then at the last moment her flight got cancelled due to Eyafjallajökull breaking out. She's still pissed with everything Icelandish, though I suggested we'd go there together and throw a really big snowball down into the crater.

I've only been to Europe once. If I end up moving to the West Coast, as I suspect I will in the coming months, that will make it a lot harder to see. Here's it's an overnight direct flight from Boston, not so bad.

@ Smoothie: last time I looked it was around 1.4 Euros/litre (on average. Super costs more, diesel less). That's approximately 5.6 Euros per gallon or 8 bucks per gallon.

@iBender: Paris would be one city I'd love to see! Alas, my French is barely sufficient to read a menu. In every day life I'd be totally lost without an interpretor. Do you speak French?

It's a gorgeous area, and not one that's really very well-known, either, sadly. It's actually kind of similar to the Scottish Highlands in some ways; very rugged and not a lot of human settlement. The interior is also home to the only caribou herds south of the St. Lawrence River, which I was lucky enough to see.

Judging by the pictures I've seen the area also resembles some regions in Bavaria (though you wouldn't meet caribous there, only gazillions of tourists ).

Seeing that you're from London: do you happen to know if that excellent little restaurant in the crypt of St Martin In The Fields still exists? I have a craving for their homemade cakes.

I've been thinking of working abroad but with my parents being old and not that healthy anymore I have to stay close.

As a guitarist/dancer you might be able to get a job at the Opera in Paris. As an artist the competition would propably be too big

^Well I'm from the mean streets of South London, when I tried out for a movie in Brixton at the age of 18, I found it easy, and I was me (A guitarist who knew the director) having fun, working with real actors and actresses from various stage schools all hoping to get this role or that role on this Soap Opera or that Soap Opera, and there's me, a young kid of the street having fun... The competetion may be stiff, but compared to my old hang out, it's just fun, and easy too. The production ran out of money though.

I've been to Croydon, too. And to LHR and LGW. And to Kew, Putney, Greenwich and pretty much all over central London.

What's PA like? I've only been to California yet but with the current economical crisis in the US a vacation over there might become cheap enough to be affordable. A coast to coast trip would be cool!
