Spoilers WandaVision discussion thread

So it looks like this is most likely MCU Pietro with a new face, and Evan Peters' casting was just an in joke. But, the way he was questioning Wanda did seem a bit suspicious, so I'm leaning towards him being Mephisto at the moment. He also called the boys "demon spawn", which seems like an innocent like joke, until you consider their comic book history.
For anyone who isn't aware, in the comics Wanda accidently stole parts of Mepthisto's soul or energy or something in order to make them, and he eventually reabsorbed them. They were then eventually reborn with new parents, and became the Young Avengers Speed and Wiccan.
It was nice to see the boys finally get their powers from the comics.

I have a hard time thinking Marvel or rather the MCU introducing Mephisto.

The MCU has been for the most part quite grounded with the usual superhero stereotype how they get powers - lab accidents, superior engineering skills etc. Due to legal reasons they couldn't use Mutants officially but this will come sooner or later.

This leaves out Magic and with Dr. Strange they did a good job MCUing Magic, i.e. it's not some mystical force but rather a skill that can be learned through hard work, studying and a little bit of talent.
Then again they already had Dormammu as an extradimensional being so the step to Mephisto might not be too big but i seriously doubt it'll be some redskinned and horned guy, that would be too far out there even for the MCU.

Right now i think it's Wanda simply going mental, it's the easiest explanation but Pietro is shooting that theory a littbe bit in the most recent episode. However knowing the MCU i think there is a large curveball coming and Wandavision might be the first giant step of establishing what the MCU will face post Thanos.

I actually stopped watching the show after two episodes when i realized that WandaVision is about a woman dreaming about a relationship with her metallic sex doll.

Then you missed a lot - there is much more to it now 6 episodes in than what the beginning suggested.

However i understand you. While i applaud the MCU for trying something new ( one of the criticisms levelled at the MCU is that it's too basic, clear villain/hero distinction, linear stories and the recipe is always the same - 1/3 big action / 1/3 drama and 1/3 humor) i think they went a little overboard with the sitcom approach they took, it could have been condensed into less time in my opinion but starting with episode 3 they really started to take off.

It's been a while since a show has grabbed that much attention with its overall mystery. Some shows keep up tension by having mini-cliffhangers every episode, Wandavision is one big cliffhanger and i guess the season finale will blow wide open and have people losing their mind ( at least i hope they will ;) )

I spoke with someone who watched the first two episodes and hasn't resumed. He said it was because he just didn't understand a single thing going on in the show.

Does he have previous knowledge of the MCU and the characters here?
If not, it‘s understandable.
If he does, then his attention span is a bit to short for this kind of show.
(Mind you, nothing wrong with that)

it‘s not supposed to make sense instantly.
We are 6 episodes in and are only now starting to get the bigger picture.

There's enough recap in episode 4 that you could probably just start the series from there if you find classic sitcom tropes unbearable.

He was probably expecting it to be a rather straightforward type show and hadn't seen any of the previews. So he didn't know it was even going to have any sitcom stuff in it.

I tried to tell him it starts off more as a David Lynch type thing, but I don't think he's ever been in Lynch style stuff either.

I would suggest then starting over with episode 3 (or 4?) whichever episode introduces Monica.
It‘s a lot more straightforward from there.

I had the same with a co-worker. I told him he may not like it but the show would make more sense if he could get through the fourth. I've said it before but I really think the first two episodes would've worked better with shorter run time and put into one episode. I know they probably wanted them to be like real tv episodes but I think they may have lost people with the weekly drops and thinking it's just going to continue like this.

It's currently the most popular show in the world, I don't think they're worried about drop off.

If the fancasters get their wish and John Krasinski has been cast as Reed Richards, (and he is Monica's contact) then an episode with a mockumentary format would be perfect for the reveal.
Oh, damn, I didn't think of that connection. That would be a brilliant reveal.

Pity it probably won't happen.

I suppose not! Just my two cents anyway. Though I didn't realize the show was doing as well as that, it doesn't seem to get the media mentions like The Mandalorian or Netflix shows get.

It also proves the wisdom of not dropping the entire season at once, as they get eight weeks of free publicity instead of coming and going and on to the next show. (How many people are talking about "The Queen's Gambit" anymore, for example.)

You know I was completely prepared to hate this show, and initially only watched it because of the Lockdown. But I've been hooked since the second or third episode. The overall product of the show is just put together in such a way that it comes over as very compelling and entertaining to me.
I haven't been this invested in a show since Game of Thrones, and I do think that we get one episode per week is part of that. If they had all been released at once I'd probably would have marathoned it on day one or two, but like this there's some time between he episodes to speculate. Let's just hope when the pieces come together the reveal will be satisfying.

I don't have any troubles picturing Merphisto in the MCU. One of the things the MCU did better than the Fox movies (FF4, X-Men, the various Fox Spidermans ) is that it adapted (or tried to adapt) the more exotic and far out elements of the comics when it comes to aliens and other dimensions, so I can picture them introducing Mephisto quite easily.

Agreed. If they do him, he may not be full-on red skin and horns, etc - they've been perfectly willing to ground some things visually when they find it necessary. Of course, even that much might not be necessary. I mean look at Knowhere... But there's absolutely no reason a demon/king of hell like Mephisto would be impossible to fit into the MCU. And with Dr. Strange ramping up and Blade on the way, plus maybe eventual potential for Ghost Rider and others, building up Hell might even be important for future MCU projects.

Heck, after the big splash debut of "Stranger Things" each season just comes and goes super-fast.
