Jesus is trying very hard to be everyone's conscience. Unfortunately, historically, people who hold the souls of the group don't last long (Dale, Hershel and Glenn, to a point). I think the decision to spare the irredeemable saviors at Hilltop is going to horribly backfire, maybe giving shitstain Gregory leverage to regain power over those who let them in - if they survive the insurrection.
Daryl was always one of the most coldly savage of the group. Carol is up there, but she still tries to reason things out on occasion. Although after that's done and there is no choice but to kill, Carol steps up without hesitation. I think Daryl just doesn't care anymore. Too much death and killing has the potential to make life cheap in one's mind. He was Negan's prisoner - to some degree tortured and definitely humiliated. It is completely reasonable and in-character for him to just want to blow anyone away who proudly claims him/herself as "I am Negan!" Rick has been and ever shall be "lawful-good". It's written inexorably in his DNA. He has his badass moments when pinned to a wall, but he will always revert back to his "I'm a cop" state due to the strong nature of his character. He wants to build a better world - he knows he needs to crack some heads to do it, but he feels his cause is righteous. He wants to do continuous reality checks with himself to ensure he, himself, is not becoming a soulless murderer like Negan. In his future world post-Negan utopia, there will be no room in that world for monsters.
Whether or not that's a realistic goal remains to be seen.
