Spoilers Walking Dead Season 8 discussion and spoilers.

Ezekiel could have just left Shiva at home that day. Rick didn't bring baby Judith with him when they stormed the Sanctuary.
Judith doesn't have the propensity for tearing out people's larynxes for fun. If she did...he might. :)

I always wondered what was stopping her from accidentally attacking an ally. She seemed to magically know exactly who to cinematically eviscerate.

The Walking Dead--
"Time for After"

Picking up where the last Savior end of the story left off, Father Gabriel's talk with Eugene was a solid scene; even while sick, he will never let go of his faith and trying to move his corrupted companions (Eugene, Rick, et al.) in the right direction, but Eugene being a close-minded atheist ("its absurd"), he thinks in a narrow, one way sense.

...but what a punk in assuming Negan wanted his hand kissed.

Eugene coming across Sasha's casket was supposed to be a convenient a conscience-shaker, but you just knew that was not going to work.

Still no idea on how Father Gabriel's health failed. No one said he was bitten, so...?

Michonne's scene with Daryl in the truck paralleled her scene with Merle (season 3), where a Dixon family member was determined to use a vehicle as the means to change the course of the conflict.

Michonne seems so unsure that she almost seems like a candidate for capture or death. Up to this point, I thought she had plot armor (as wife and surrogate mother), but now, I'm not so sure. Perhaps the flash-forward of Rick's red, teary eyes (S8 E1) has something to do with her....

The debate, between Rosita, Tara and Michonne was good to see, and it seems Rosita's guilt over Sasha finally made her see the pointless nature of "balls to the walls" actions. She's learning the value of patience mentioned by Father Gabriel in season 7.

There's no way Daryl's little truck stunt is not the final nail in the coffin in his relationship with Rick, as viewers can be sure the truck stunt will lead to major deaths either in next week's mid-season finale, or 8B.

Rick taking control of the walker nearly killing Mick Jadis was a tight, effective moment. Did not see that coming, and aside from the missing walkers around the Sanctuary, what did Rick see?

Next week, Carl take command.....

Eugene is quickly heading down irredeemable territory.

On a side note...
Tonight's installment of Red Machete showed why you should never wear headphones in the zombie apocalypse.

Father Gabriel got sick from exposure to the walker guts doing the "walker camouflage" a couple weeks back, probably a signal to us on the drawbacks of doing this and why our heroes don't do it unless their backs are to the wall. Gabriel must have not been careful when coating himself with it, got some in his mouth, or just generally got sick from it while Negan didn't. Any number of reasons why including one's own personal health.

I'd say Eugene is pretty much irredeemable at this point baring something marvelous done by him.

Loved the stuff with Rick at The Heaps with Jadis, it's always fun to see them "negotiate."

"I sculpt you, after, without those." (indicates shorts)
"Without these no sculpting." (indicates hand restraints.)

And good one, Daryl!

Mick Jadis

Stop. You don't find her attractive, fine. But there's no call for being cruel/insulting towards a woman because of her looks.

I'd say Eugene was irredeemable as well, but then I've felt the same way about Dwight and to a lesser extent Father Gabriel at one point or another in their pasts as well, so I can't really make permanent predictions like that anymore. That being said, if Eugene's face were to get gnawed off by a walker right now I wouldn't shed any tears.

Yeah, but the thing right now with Eugene, for me, is him, seemingly, considering Rick and the others as "traveling companions" and not friends. (I mean with Gabriel you could argue he's not a "friend" and really a "traveling companion" but, Rick, Rosita? I'd say they're closer to being friends.) Then there's his little snap at Gabriel in his second visit in the hospital room. He just seems to have gone full asshole and doing all of this for himself. You'd think he'd see and realize that Negan's a bigger problem and threat than he is a help.

I'm honestly surprised this is not a more common occurrence. I don't mean from draping the guts all over oneself, I mean the contaminated nature of the entire atmosphere with all the dead and decaying flesh, literally everywhere. Bacteria, spores and viruses should be getting released into the atmosphere in bulk quantities. When's the last time we saw it rain? On their way up to Northern Virginia when they were acting like they were in a draught for weeks, making a point that it doesn't regularly rain anymore? Without regular rain cleaning the toxins out of the air, everyone should be getting sick from something, particularly the kids who don't have as well-developed an immune system. Honestly, I'd be walking around with a gas mask at this point. You never know what kind of pathogens you're breathing in, in that kind of environment.

Yep. Early on, it took a strange and endearing kind of courage for him to freely admit what a coward he is. Now, it's controlling his actions way too much and the drinking isn't helping.

His MENSA egghead diction is also starting to get a lot more prosaic and annoying in recent episodes.

She is, clearly, a kinky freak.

And bored. Really, really bored. :)

I don't know about anyone else, but this season has caused me to lose almost all interest in the show. It's boring as hell, and the first five episodes of the season were just people shooting at each other. Hopefully the "big scene" next week will redeem the show.

Last night was the first episode that held my attention. The rest of the season was a snoozefest.

But how far--or low can he go before he's beyond saving? From the mid-season finale previews, it looks like a major firefight will take place--the only way that happens is for Eugene to make bullets for the Saviors, so any successful kills made by the Saviors will be on his head. Even if he was playing Gabriel (to keep him out of the loop / spare him from interrogation in case Eugene flips), his service will still play a part in the promised mid-season finale deaths. There's no coming back from that.

The series is wildly inconsistent with the effect of walker guts. In the first series use, appropriately titled "Guts", the survivors made a point of wearing protective clothing and not getting any in their eyes or mouths. Jump to the following seasons and both Rick & Michonne had guts on her clothing and skin, and did not become ill. Without a bite, I'm calling Father Gabriel's condition illness by convenience, especially since Negan--also covered--turned out fine..

That, and his belief in nothing. He's living to avoid what he probably thinks is nonexistence, not because he actually knows what his purpose is in life.

She is, clearly, a kinky freak.

Freaky, indeed, as she sculpts in the nude, and ask to sculpt Rick in an equally bare-assed state.

I actually like this season. And this latest episode had me guessing the whole time...like if either Dwight or Eugene or both would die.

And when Eugene saw the iPod, I thought his reason for taking it was to give to the Megan bride who wanted her radio fixed.

And speaking of her , I thought that her asking for the poison pills was a test from Negan to test Eugene's loyalty. Sounds more like she was saying that to hide her own attempted assassination attempt.

So now ...for those who read the comic, do the Heapsters in some way feel like the Whisperers?

The "plan", such as it was, was working. We can't have that, though, we need someone to do something stupid (the garbage truck) and set everything back two or five steps.

Will the "big scene" involve the helicopter?

The whole travelling companion thing is so obviously Eugene lying to himself to make it easier to keep working for Negan. It’s clear from the drinking that he’s not a happy bunny.

On the other hand, yet again here is Negan, vicious and vile as he is, who is probably the first person to show Eugene any kind of respect, as opposed to Rick and co who treated him like an idiot, a useful idiot for sure, but an idiot nonetheless. Now maybe Negan’s just playing him but either way it gives more of a glimpse of why people would follow Negan beyond just being scared of him. We should have seen more stuff like that.

.

Well you could just as easily lay those deaths squarely at Daryl and Tara’s door for their truck related antics given that act’s clearly given the Saviours some kind of solution to their problem.
But then Daryl always gets a free pass (cough* Glenn* cough)

It is weird how Tara and Rosita seem to have swapped scripts this year. It’s nice to see Rosita’s seen sense, but a shame that Tara’s lost most of the stuff that made her interesting.

I have to admit I’m not loving this show as much as I once did. That said maybe the second half of the season will see an upsurge.

Oh, I've pointed out how much of a dumbass Daryl is--at least since S6, but no matter what the truck stunt triggers, Negan is still counting on Eugene to provide the one thing he needs for revenge--bullets. That said, the second Eugene provides ammunition, he's as guilty of any upcoming deaths as Tara or Daryl.

Perhaps that means Tara will go bye-bye...or she will have to go the Rosita route and get someone killed before she wakes up.

Eight seasons in--there's few series in TV history that run that long and remain fresh.

The Walking Dead's Katelyn Nacon (Enid) offers a clue about the mid-season finale--

The Walking Dead season 8: Katelyn Nacon teases mid-season finale and the coming ‘emotional shift’

Key:

‘There’s going to be a change that happens. Not necessarily a huge shift, but the second half of the season is going to be pretty different emotionally.'
‘It’s more of a shift with the way the characters are emotionally and in their mental state. ‘I feel like fans are going to have a love/hate relationship with it,’ Katelyn added.

Reads like she's underplaying what all other media sources are claiming will be THE game-changing tragedy in series history.
