Wal-Mart fouls -- another chain takes the good publicity

I never ceased to be amazed at the sheer level of hate that can be leveled at a company that has done nothing to its detractors.

So, what? Mom & pop stores are not detractors? Local work force not being hired to pay cheap temp foreign labor not count either? Or how about competing store like K-Mart have have next to zero business?

And as for the complaitns earlier about dirty Wal-Marts with no help, I've not experienced that. The Wal-Marts here are clean (one VERY clean), and almost always someone to help you that is friendly.

it's because wal-mart gets free money this way, they get this guys money for free, and if they can kick him out before too many cards get passed out, the money doesn't get used up and they can afford the annual salary for another chinese worker or two

Seems to be doing plenty to the poor slaves who WORK there, though. Have you even read that Wake Up site?

No one is forcing them to work there.

Irrelevant. That doesn't justify treating employees like chattel. Wal-Mart, like any other company, has a responsibility to treat its workforce with respect. If my store pulled the kind of shit with me that Wal-Mart does with its slaves, I would not only quit, but sue, and probably go postal as well.

:guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw: That's even better than Vinegar Boy.

Rhetoric. If you gave me a dollar for every employee that complained about their job, I would be rich.

It is called the free market, and I love it.

I worked at Wal-Mart when I was 17-19 and I made a hell of a lot of money for someone my age. When all my friends were making $5.15, I was making $8.10 which was a hell of a lot of money at the time for someone my age.

This isn't just rhetoric. It's flat-out abuse.

Unless, of course, you would actually like to be locked inside your store so you can't leave (for overnight workers), forced to work off the clock, fired for even mentioning the word 'union', offered health insurance plans that you can't afford, etc.

The employees at the Walmart here look fucking miserable. Most of them seem slightly mentally handicapped, so I guess it's good that they're able to work, but you can tell they're unhappy. Half of them look like they belong in a circus act. We even have a Bearded Lady!

The clientele looks like they would shank you in the parking lot. I am honestly surprised every time I find my car NOT broken into when I exit the store.

The only reason I even go is because it's 2 minutes from my apartment.

Wlamart said her couldn't hand them out because it was soliciting and also because they said it was interupting foot traffic.

And yet they apparently don't care enough to provide adequate security to prevent their doors being ripped off and people trampled to death on a busy shopping day. Nice.

^ You could try walking to the store instead, if it's only two minutes driving away, that way you don't have to fear for the safety of your car, either :D

Unfortunately, that would require walking across a major highway. It's not really practical.

Dead people don't interrupt foot traffic because you can walk over them. You can also walk over the people trying to help the dead person.

I noticed that Walmart has, in the past several months, dropped the hyphen/star from the middle of their name...at least on TV ads.

Now they're just Walmart. Gonna take some getting used to. Here's the new logo they're using:

wmlogo.gif

Love that logo. To the average person "Live Better" = Buy cheap shit of low quality you'll have to replace in a year or two anyways that you might not have needed in the first place. I'd rather spend the same amount of money on 7 well made items than 10 poorly made ones, but that's the Walmart way and it's why I avoid them for any major purchase.

Seriously, if you buy everything at Walmart, your house is full of poorly made, cheap shit. I spend a few dollars there from time to time, but aside from the name brand consumer electronics and some name brand stuff in their hardware, drug and auto departments everything they sell is shit. Clothes, furniture, housewares, etc. All shit. If it's not shit you're probably paying the same price as you would at K-Mart or Target or Sears.

Walmart's drive towards retail side pricing is also a primary motivator toward manufacturing leaving North America in the past twenty five years.

Costco, however, is a company I can respect. I still save money but I've rarely felt like I was buying substandard merchandise from them. And they treat their employees right.
QFT Even the appliances they sell HAVE to come from the seconds line of the manufacturer. When I go to Wal Mart, it's for consumables (toiletries and cat litter).

Go Target!

Walmart is hopelessly lame. Just look at their designer collaboration: Norma Kamali. Are you even kidding? Meanwhile Target has Thakoon, Hayden-Harnett, Anya Hindmarch, Botikier, etc. So Target appeals to people who love clothes, and need dishwashing liquid.

Target also benefits from taking this guy in because him handing out Target gift cards means that whoever receives one will have to come back to Target to use it. So it's basically ensuring that your customers return. And of course, if they come in to use a $10 gift card, they will likely go over that amount and pay some out of their own pocket.
