Wal-Mart fouls -- another chain takes the good publicity

Just saw on the news today (forget where in the U.S.A.) that a guy went to Wal-Mart, got some gift cards, filled them with money, and started handing them out. Eventually security found him and asked what he was doing (they interviewed him on this news segment very briefly) and he said it was the golidays and he was trying to bring Christmas cheer.
Wal-Mart showed their cheer and booted him. Target called him up and told him to come over to their store, switch out the cards for theirs, and hand them out.

:guffaw:

K-Mart only WISHES it had oppritunities like this.

I noticed that Walmart has, in the past several months, dropped the hyphen/star from the middle of their name...at least on TV ads.

Now they're just Walmart. Gonna take some getting used to. Here's the new logo they're using:

How stupid are they? The guy was handing out a form of currency that can only be spent in a Walmart store, and they throw him out :wtf:

Admittedly, that was a pretty dumb move on their part. But it was smart of Target to pick up on it and run with the idea. Good for them.

Walmart has some weird practices. This girl in one of my classes did a presentation on Walmart and all of it's evils. I don't necessarily agree with everything she said (some of it was pretty out there) but she did provide a lot of interesting facts, like their weird definition of part-time.

Kmart sucks.

Don't even get me started. I worked for Walmart..for a grand total of eight hours. Worst eight hours of my life...LOL

We don't have Walmart in Australia so it is hard for me to know how true some of the stories really are. Is Walmart really as bad as people say?

We do have a store called Big W that is said to be based on Walmart but Australians don't seem to have the same negative attitude towards Mig W that Americans seem to have against Walmart.

Well a lot of debate can be had about Walmart. There are different reasons that people dislike them. A lot of small towns dislike them because they come in with their low prices and drive out the mom and pop stores that can't compete. A lot of residents dislike a Walmart being built in their neighborhood because it brings huge amounts of traffic and some say crime. Others dislike Walmart for their labor practices, which are supposedly very bad (I haven't read a lot about it but I'm sure other people can give you info on this). And some people just dislike it because the insides of the stores always seem dirty and unorganized (and the parking lots seem pretty dirty too) and the staff is not that helpful. And it seems to attract the kind of crowd who is loud and lets their kids run around doing whatever they please. As soon as I walk into a Walmart I feel stressed out.

I've only ever been to three Walmarts, and two of them didn't have the best of crowds. If I ever went back to them, I'd need some Kevlar.

That would be in housewares, next to the vacuum cleaners. If you need ammo, that's one aisle over from the Lego section.

I've always found it funny that in every Walmart I've been in, the toys section ends and the very section is hunting and camping.

"Junior you run off and see if they've got them there new Richard Petty collectible Hot Wheels, momma needs to see if they still have thirty-ought six buy one get one."

I think you have to live in North America to understand the hate... from mass firings at stores that tried to unionize, absolutely obnoxious commercials, to zero customer service, the stores can be a nightmare.

They recently built a new Super Walmart near me, and while it still has absolutely no customer service (with many self-checkouts), they have a lot of stuff that I normally buy elsewhere, and significantly cheaper. It would only be other chains getting my business, so I'm not concerned about driving the remaining few individually owned stores out of business.

For me Wal-Mart/Wal*Mart/Walmart is just horrid. Too huge, too crowded, often times don't have what I really want and the clientele in there really makes me fear for humanity's future.

I love Walmart. I've shopped there for 10 years and I estimate that, because of their low prices, I've saved over $1000.

Love that logo. To the average person "Live Better" = Buy cheap shit of low quality you'll have to replace in a year or two anyways that you might not have needed in the first place. I'd rather spend the same amount of money on 7 well made items than 10 poorly made ones, but that's the Walmart way and it's why I avoid them for any major purchase.

Seriously, if you buy everything at Walmart, your house is full of poorly made, cheap shit. I spend a few dollars there from time to time, but aside from the name brand consumer electronics and some name brand stuff in their hardware, drug and auto departments everything they sell is shit. Clothes, furniture, housewares, etc. All shit. If it's not shit you're probably paying the same price as you would at K-Mart or Target or Sears.

Walmart's drive towards retail side pricing is also a primary motivator toward manufacturing leaving North America in the past twenty five years.

Costco, however, is a company I can respect. I still save money but I've rarely felt like I was buying substandard merchandise from them. And they treat their employees right.

That star used to represent the memory of Sam Walton. I guess his spawn have decided ol' Sam's had his day and out he goes.
