That probably was part of it; I do recall reading some angry posts on Lost boards from Asian males that Jin was to be killed off. (Especially against those who were Sun/Michael shippers...)
And no, I wasn't active on LOST boards...(as I was--and still I'm--apart of too many boards as it is; and yes, I thought the Michael/Sun relationship was cool...but, we have to have our strong Asian male character since there were so few of those on television...and still is, in a way).
From what I've always heard, it had more to do with the fact that the audience at large loved Sun and Jin as a couple, which made the writers ditch the love triangle idea (fortunately... If only they had gotten rid of some other love triangles on that show).
