Wait?! "Panties" is a disliked word?

Somebody objects to "panties"? For Christ's sake, find a real battle to fight. Seriously, ladies. This is what we find objectionable? Who gives a shit? Who discusses their panties in a work situation? It's not going to come up.
I was manager of a Midwifery service for about 14 years and spent a lot of time in staff meetings and hanging out in the call room. Aside from me, the entire staff of 15-20 people was made up of women. Panties were indeed discussed. :rommie:

Yeah, but once handling mucuous plugs and staring at a bloody head coming out of a stranger's cervix becomes common place at work, you get immune to the word "panties." I meant in more of a mainstream office setting. It's such an inoffensive, cute little word. Panties. That author is tripping. He also hated the word "ointment." I can come up with much grosser words than that.

Pitocin. Forceps. Episiotomy. Republican. There you go. :D

Moist.

I win.

In Australia

Female underwear - panties, undies or knickers
Male underwear - undies, underpants, jocks, underdaks, boxers, briefs

Outerwear - jeans, trousers, pants, slacks

^largely the same in the UK, except for 'underdaks' and i'd add 'kecks' for male underwear. and pants are solely your briefs, Y-fronts or underpants.

Panties isn't used in the UK very much at all. The only time you ever hear it is in US tv imports and, for some strange reason, a singular version on women's sanitary products. It's like their marketing people invented the word solely for that purpose.

Yeah, these ladies were pretty much immune to everything. :rommie:

:barf:
Not that I need reminding, but remind me anyway never to have children.

Smegma.

Although, to be honest, the word itself doesn't sound too bad. Sounds like a river in Eastern Europe.

^ Good luck trying to go to the store and pick up one of those units without laughing. Kind of like people who call up Hotblack Desiato and yell at them for stealing their name from the rock star from 'Disaster Area'.

Well if you read the article he doesn't actually say it was women who emailed him about it.

I just say "ginch". (nods)

Christ, of all the things in the world to get your knickers in a knot about.

I wear boxer-briefs. They never "lose the luggage". Too much information?

I have mixed feelings about that. I don't want to be caught off guard by somebody's snatch in the middle of the work day; it would be a little distracting!

It does get a little distracting, particularly when you're on a cherry picker (no pun intended).

Reminds me of the Tallulah Bankhead story:

During filming of Lifeboat, several of the crew members noted that actress Tallulah Bankhead was not wearing underwear. When advised of this situation, director Alfred Hitchcock observed, “I don’t know if this is a matter for the costume department, makeup, or hairdressing.”
