Wait?! "Panties" is a disliked word?

Somebody objects to "panties"? For Christ's sake, find a real battle to fight. Seriously, ladies. This is what we find objectionable? Who gives a shit? Who discusses their panties in a work situation? It's not going to come up.

I was manager of a Midwifery service for about 14 years and spent a lot of time in staff meetings and hanging out in the call room. Aside from me, the entire staff of 15-20 people was made up of women. Panties were indeed discussed.

In Australia

Female underwear - panties, undies or knickers
Male underwear - undies, underpants, jocks, underdaks, boxers, briefs

Outerwear - jeans, trousers, pants, slacks

^largely the same in the UK, except for 'underdaks' and i'd add 'kecks' for male underwear. and pants are solely your briefs, Y-fronts or underpants.

Panties isn't used in the UK very much at all. The only time you ever hear it is in US tv imports and, for some strange reason, a singular version on women's sanitary products. It's like their marketing people invented the word solely for that purpose.

Reminds me of the Tallulah Bankhead story:
