Wachowskis for Superman reboot?

The Wachowskis would be fine. Just don't give them a lot of control of script.

Instead, get Geoff Johns and Richard Donner to adapt their Last Son and Johns' Brainiac stories. There's a trilogy there that would be epic.

And make them exec producers as well.

^^Exactlly right. It's not a physical realm, just an in-brain simulation of one.

Which brings to mind the question, how does the "red pill" (used in the first film to get a 'tracer' on a subject's original body so that its pod can be located) work, then? If a character in the Matrix takes any kind of pill, then that means nothing, since the Matrix is not a physical location.

Same goes for the phone booths used as a "hard line" exit from the Matrix. That should be just a metaphor, since there is no such thing as a hard line in a completely virtual world. It'd be like being able to instantly wake from a dream by dreaming that you pick up a phone. You can't do it.

Well, that I could live with if only because of the material being adapted. No matter who they get, that's what they should use.

Maybe they are each metaphors for something more physical? Your guess is as good as mine. ;)

The brothers would be an interesting choice...I think a trilogy is a little ambitious at this point considering that Warner Bros was so disappointed by Superman Returns box office. They should do an original movie one shot with Darksied or Brainiac as the villain. I also like the suggestion of adapting Geoff Johns Superman stories. Also didn't the original poster state that the brothers were contemplating the offer or whatever. Warner Bros doesn't seem to have much confidence in anyone with a Superman movie since they can't make up their mind on who to choose for a director or writer. I still want to see Superman Man of Steel as directed by Bryan Singer and written by his two writers...

Or for that matter "eating"

Cypher couldn't wait to go back and eat a virtual steak. The machines probably gave his pod more nutrients in reality

Fuck you Tim Burton.

FUCK. YOU.

What is this?

Assimilated Superman?

I believe that is Superman reborn in his black suit from Superman Lives! It does look a bit garrish though doesn't it?

Look at him, he really looks like a Borg drone.

That would be quite a terrifying thought, "What if the Borg assimilated Superman?"

I think most of the universe would be pretty screwed.

Assimialting Superman wouldn't suddenly give the Borg the ability to absorb solar rays and use them to have super-abilities.

I think it'd be hard to find a talented filmmaker who would want to do things traditionally; as others have said, just about everyone knows the origin and isn't clamoring for it yet again, but I think Superman Returns (other problems aside) showed that making a movie with an established Superman/a sequel to a long-ago movie was alienating to audiences. So you probably have to start with an origin (probably not too long) that's somewhat innovative so people'll feel that it's worthwhile and for them.

I don't see why you need an origin, even when it's not connected to a previous film. I don't think 'Superman Returns' needed an origin, and trying to tie it to the Donner movies was just one mistake made. Just references and brief flashes should be all that's necessary for Superman's origin.

The Joe Public non-fan that would see this movie probably knows enough to know that Superman is an alien and that's why he has his powers. Anything else story-related should be included (like refences to Brainiac, Zod, whoever), maybe even a brief opening narrative, but I don't see why anything else is needed.

The innovation factor should be the story itself.

I think having an established Superman, especially if he's overly traditional, would have the effect of making the film feel like a sequel, if not to Donner than to one not even existing, which would be alienating to many viewers.

The best route for a reboot is probably to retell the origin and Superman's early career in broad strokes in a credits montage and then skip ahead to where Superman is an established hero for the actual story.

You could do it in a brief flashback sequence if you really wanted to like in the first page of All Star Superman#1. I personally am a big fan of the origin story and seeing other people's takes on it, that is one of the great things about the Superman mythology, is that it is so rich and can be reinterpreted many times in many different ways but still have the basic main points most comic book fans know.

DC is publishing a new Superman origin, titled Superman: Secret Origin, by the best Superman creative team in years, Geoff Johns and Gary Frank. With word that the WB is actually starting to get feedback and input from DC, maybe SO will serve as a partial basis for this film. Here's hoping. I think there needs to be some origin in there, but from a different perspective. For example, Johns' Brainiac run showed a lot of Kryptonian stuff from the perspective of the Kandorians as they were attacked and abducted by Brainiac. This would be a great way to open the film. Then just a few flashbacks dealing with Kal-El being sent to Earth, or maybe a brief flashback of the actual escape from Krypton, and that's it. At any rate, I think we've gone a long enough time without a cinematic version of Superman's origin. It's time to use it again.

Superman: Secret Origin will not retell any of the Krypton origin (unfortunately for me which I originally was hoping it would when I first heard of it) but start from Clark's earliest years in Smallville, his time in the future with the Legion, and his first time in Metropolis. There is another comic that is called Superman: World of Krypton and this might deal with some of the Krypton origin.

Personally for myself the origin as it was told in Superman Movie is my favorite take on it and I would just "remake" that in a flashback sequence or whatever.

No, but the Borg make new drones by rapidly growing clones, thus they can create a rather large army of superman drones in a very short time.
