w00t! Reaper returns tonight!!!

Ouch. I knew it was going to get slaughtered against Idol. :alienblush:

It's not as bad as I thought it would be. 90210, the show of the show for the CW only got a little higher.

Of course my favorite is the network is looking for 12 year old girls to watch the lame soap opera shows. However what are the highest rated shows on the network? Smallville and Supernatural the guy shows of the network.

I loved that one scene with Sam and the Devil:

Sam: "It worked!"
Devil: "Not so much, sport. I just wanted to tell you that your pentagram is actually a star of David. Mazel tov!"

Devil: "Holy crap, where did you get this book? 'The Devil is attracted to radishes'? What does that mean? Like, sexually? That's disgusting!" :guffaw:

After the '09-'10 season, they'll both be gone. Welling only signed for a 9th season at the 11th hour, and Kripke has been adamant that he only has a 5 year story arc for Supernatural. Its two leads won't do the show without Kripke. Don't know what the CW plans to do. More teen shows and soaps, I suppose.

I think Supernatural will get a spinoff at the very least. I still believe that the creator can be convinced to do another season.

However doesn't that prove that The CW is going after the wrong crowd? You can have female dramas, male dramas and both. The CW doesn't seem to get that.

I got bored by the 10 minute mark and deleted it. Maybe it's been gone too long or didn't come back with enough oomph or maybe my TV habits have changed in the last eon since this last aired. I'll try again in a few episodes.

Hmmm, I rarely have gotten into the show the few times I've tried to watch it and decided to give it a swing last night and found it quite entertaining.

And the way they presented Sock's sister situation I must say I can't blame the boy, they really made an awfully tempting situation.

I hope Gladys is seen again. The premise seems to have shifted slightly to destroying souls from capturing them.

There was slacker dude life [the beer brainstorming all-nighter] and zaniness [Sam swnging to Sugar plum fairy music] that I love about the show.

It wasn't the all out hilarity fest I hoped for. Sam/Andi drags a bit for me. The hot Asian chick is borderline stereotype. I wish the guys had lived at the Work Bench for a couple more eppisodes. But Ted had some great moments. Perhaps I was building it up a bit too much in my mind. But I am really really glad to see it again!

What is with the CW, they didn't even run repeats of the show EVER, to even try to build an audience. I haven't seen episodes available on Hulu, Joost, Fancast or Veoh. :(

The CW and its limited marketing dollars are invested in its new teen shows, and that's it. That's what's "with" the CW. They care about Gossip Girl, 90210, Top Model, and the potential GoGirl spinoff and new Melrose Place next fall. They expect all other shows to take care of themselves and they aren't going to spend a dime on them if they don't have to do so. Reaper doesn't fit the teen girl mode. Ergo, the CW doesn't care and is burning the episodes off this spring. With ratings like last night, it's not likely to get renewed for next season. Sorry.

Like I said, Ostroff wanted to get rid of SPN. Badly. She wanted to cancel after 2 seasons but the Warner suits overruled her. They make too much money off SPN in the foreign markets. Just this past week, SPN beat American Idol on ITV2 in the UK. I kid you not. That's money, money, money for Warner Brothers. Reaper isn't produced by Warner. Its parent company isn't going to fight for it.

Ouch. Final numbers for Reaper per Travis Yanan at pifeedback.com

Reaper
- 2.306 million viewers
- 1.5/2 HH
- 0.9/2 A18-49
- 0.8/2 A18-34

That 18-34 demo number is the worst. With numbers like that in the demo for the new episode, CW won't spend a penny to advertise it. If you're over 34, they don't give a damn about your viewing habits. If your reproductive organs dangle, they don't care about you past the age of 18. Too bad Spike isn't looking for programming. Reaper would be a perfect fit for the tone and programming slate of that network.

This show is so darn charming. That was great! :rommie:

So I guess they're going with the whole Son of Satan thing? I thought another shoe was going to drop. Still could, I spose. But we still have no real explanation how anyone's parents can sell their soul to Satan. Seems like only the owner of the soul should be able to do that (and only when over the age of 21). :p

That letter they left in the dust on the road to Sea World in which Sam mentions working for Satan is going to come back to haunt them...

It's pretty obvious that the firstborn-child shoul-selling bit was a lie. I don't even think that the Devil actually owns Sam's soul. I think he's just jerking him around. Why? Because it's fun, and when you're the Devil you have a lot of free time on your hands. And because Sam does have a great deal of potential that he's just wasting, and the Devil wants him to put that potential to use. Possibly very evil use.

It's still not even clear what sort of Devil we have in this series. He could be just a guy with a tough job and a bad reputation, or he could really be the pure evil world-destroying type. And it's obvious that he likes playing around with both sterotypes to keep people guessing.

I loved that one scene with Sam and the Devil:

Sam: "It worked!"
Devil: "Not so much, sport. I just wanted to tell you that your pentagram is actually a star of David. Mazel tov!"

Best line of the episode!
Have you noticed the Devil didn't enter the circle anyway?

I really can't praise this episode highly enough, it was hilarious. That Die Hard stunt was one of the biggest laughs I have had in ages :guffaw:

It's confusing why this show has such shitty figures, it kicks ass out of CWs other genre shows. I would have though this would have ALL the Smallville and Supernatural viewers and be pulling in plenty more besides, it is far far superior to either of those shows.

He must have been nervous that sonny-boy was showing an interest in occult literature. Hence the dismissive jokes. ;)

Bad fit. Too much of a guy show on an all-girl network. Haven't the girls noticed how cute Sam is!?!?! :klingon:

They're otherwise occupied drooling over Ackles, Padalecki, and the ethereally scrumptious, velvety voiced bad ass angel in the Supernatural-verse, Misha Collins.

Then they obviously have no taste. :p I dunno what it is about Sam, maybe his dazzling smile (which I've now realized something eerie about - it's inherited from dear old Dad!)

Don't make me resort to my vast arsenal of pictures, Temis. :p Poor little Brett Harrison don't have a prayer against the trio of testosterone lusciousness from Thursday nights. :D No, I don't include Tom Welling in that group. He's okay, but a little too all American corn fed looking for my tastes.

Sadly, this is why Reaper won't get renewed. It was a brand new eppy, its second season premiere, going up against Idol. These were the final ratings as posted by Travis Yanan at pifeedback.

2.306 million viewers
1.5/2 HH
.09/2 A 18-49
.08/2 A 18-34

Those were final ratings, not overnights. Every tiny market counted in.

These are the final ratings for the repeats of Smallville and Supernatural last night. Smallville aired against a Thursday Idol and Survivor. Supernatural aired against a new CSI that earned 20+ plus million viewers and a 12.7/20 HH share.

Smallville (R)
- 2.210 million viewers
- 1.5/2 HH
- 0.8/2 A18-49
- 0.9/3 A18-34

Supernatural (R)
- 2.015 million viewers
- 1.2/2 HH
- 0.8/2 A18-49
- 0.8/2 A18-34

Smallville's repeat against Idol beat Reaper's 18-34 demo, and Supernatural's repeat equaled it. They're the top rated scripted shows for CW, and CW won't spend a dime advertising them off network. It's all for 90210 and Gossip Girl (GG will air 24 new episodes this season; the network budgeted in the money so it could air 24 eps to 22 eps for the other shows). With numbers like that for a new episode, Reaper has no hope. :( CW will let it die. It's not a girly teen trash show. Okay, Brett Harrison's kind of cute. That won't matter to la Ostroff though. She's sticking to the teen trash formula and she's holding on tight.

The one time I tried to watch something on the CW like, ever, it was pre-empted in the DC/Baltimore Metro area for a Duke *spit*/Florida State game.

It was probably pre-empted in other ACC markets as well. Supposedly being shown sometime on Saturday, but I watched it through other means. Quite entertaining. I'll enjoy it while it lasts. :techman:

I still don't think it was that bad.

Reaper and Pushing Daisies would have went well together on some network.

Reaper would be cool for Spike. Oh well, at least its 13 episodes will play out this spring. It's not as if the CW has anything that'll do better on Tuesdays for the time being.
