Vulcan's New Home

trekkier

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
So, I'm riding the train home today, and listening to the Star Trek soundtrack on the train, and i got me thinking...Where the hell are all the Vulcans gonna live? I came up with Old-Spock would try to reunite them with the Romulans living in the 23rd century. I dont know just throwing that out there

ehhh...maybe...I suppose spock would fix the problem with the supernova as well too...

How about one of planets where Vasquez Rocks exists?

The Rocks were used in the following episodes/movies. From Ex Astris Scientia:
1. Amusement Park Planet in TOS: "Shore Leave" (where Kirk gets beaten up by Finnegan)
2. Metron Asteroid in TOS: "Arena" (that the Metrons have set up for Kirk to fight against the Gorn)
3. Lazarus' Planet in TOS: "The Alternative Factor" (site of the rift between the universes) ...in the Omicron Delta system
4. Capella IV in TOS: "Friday's Child" (where Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the pregnant woman seek refuge)
5. Vulcan in "Star Trek IV" (the peak to which Spock retreats to meditate)
6. Mintaka III in TNG: "Who Watches the Watchers" (site of the "duck blind")
7. Tarok in VOY: "Initiations" (Kazon training ground)
8. Xyrillian homeworld in ENT: "Unexpected" (holo-simulation)

#1, (in the Omicron Delta system) is an Amusment Park planet so that's out.

#2 (at an unknown desert planet) [may have been temporarily created by the Metrons] & 3 (uninhabited planet near Starbase 200) were never officially named but may be good candidates.

#4 is Capella IV inhabited with Cappellan's, and #8 the Xyrillian homeworld so I think those are out. Although, 8 could work...

#5 & #7 are obviously eliminated.

#6 Could be a very interesting selection given a Proto Vulcan race exists there but issues of contamination could also rule it out.

Unless they decide to create a new world for them then #3, (my favorite) work best imo.

I say they build an artificial planet in the inner zone of Mercury's orbit just to fool around with general relativity.

Well, in ENT (which is still valid and in play for the new movie universe) they had colonies on other planets. Given how few Vulcans appear to be left, they could probably go to a Vulcan colony world easily.

As we learn at the end of the movie, Spock Prime has already located a suitable planet on which to establish a colony. He says so to Quinto\Spock.
So, that's where Vulcans are going to live.

As for unification...at this point in history and under the circumstances I doubt that either Romulans or Vulcans would care for it.

Pretty sure unification was discussed earlier in another thread...personally, i don't see that happening. The Vulcans are going to want to keep their culture their own for sure.

And as far as what planet Spock Prime found for them.....i hope we find out in the next movie. How 'bout something completely different like the Dyson Sphere we saw in TNG's "Relics"?

^ At first, yes, but to preserve the species they will have to do alot of procreating! The Dyson Sphere will give them LOTS of room for that! ;)

If i recall correctly, they arent limited to sex only during Pon Farr....they just HAFTA have it during Pon Farr.

)and don't you think its rather awesome and amazing that im in nu yawk, and you are in england and we can still play together? gawd i love the internet!)

^ Well I knew they could have sex at other times, but I didn't know if they could "breed" at any other time (being as euphemistic as I can here!)

(And yup it's the wonders of the modern age :)!)

Ok, heres what i found:

Despite popular opinion, TOS writer and story editor, Dorothy C. Fontana, insists that Pon Farr is not the only time that Vulcans feel sexual desire or engage in sexual activity: "Vulcans mate normally any time they want to. However, every seven years you do the ritual, the ceremony, the whole thing. The biological urge. You must, but any other time is any other emotion - humanoid emotion - when you're in love. When you want to, you know, when the urge is there, you do it. This every-seven-years business was taken too literally by too many people who don't stop and understand. We didn't mean it only every seven years. I mean, every seven years would be a little bad, and it would not explain the Vulcans of many different ages which are not seven years apart."

Anyway, i was just throwing the Dyson Sphere out there. It actually was a pretty bad suggestion....it only came to mind because i rewatched Relics last night!

^ Well unfortunately that Sphere would be out of the question - what with the radiation!

But a smaller artificial Construct, an O'Neill Cylinder or something, would be an interesting concept...

As for unification...at this point in history and under the circumstances I doubt that either Romulans or Vulcans would care for it.
Even in the 24th century reunification was going to be a long, slow process. In the 23rd century it may be nearly impossible to accomplish.

If Vulcans wait for ponn farr they will never rebuild their 'endangered species'! Some traditions may need to change for continued survival.

It's not a tradition but a biological imperative.

But please see above - Vulcans can and do mate (and conceive) at times other than during pon farr.

Moreover, as an especially long lived race, they have many more child bearing years in which to do it -at minimum 2-3 times the number of years of human females.

I think the Vulcans will do just fine. I think the biologically able will be in the mood.;)

But I don't think they will be in the mood for a raproachment with their "sundered" cousins, The Rommies, or vice versa, just yet (for myriad reasons stated in another thread on the same subject).
