Voyager Uniforms

I'm happy that they didn't change the uniforms. The new ones did look terrible.

I agree 100%. The Voyager uniforms were the best. I liked the DS9 uniforms but they were too dark and gloomy, like the show. Voyager's seemed more relaxed and colorful, like the characters.

I know this has probably been asked to death, so I sorry.

But why didn't they change them when they got into contact with earth?

Why? They were thousands of light-years from the Federation, which means it didn't matter what they wore. I'm sure by the end of "EndGame", they received their new suits.

You mean for the few who weren't cashiered, defrocked or imprisoned?

Come on they used power creating Captain Proton every week!
Officially, the holodeck power can not be used in the rest of the ship (I believe this was stated in S1E2)

Unofficially, they saved power by doing it in Black and White :)

Lets also not forget they wasted power by providing air for the likes of Kes

Without Kes, they would never have been able to find Torres and Kim and bring them back to the ship.

Without Kes, they would have starved to death.

Without Kes, Voyager would have been a nice Bothan trophy or destroyed by Suspiria.

Without Kes, Voyager would never have survived more than some months in the Delta Quadrant

The old ones began to look a bit tattered and scruffy towards the end. I would have preferred it if they had changed. From season six onwards, they had no DS9 to worry about so the uniforms could have been reused.

Believe it or not, though, those uniforms cost thousands of dollars each.

Though, I do remember Q asking Riker if the replicator would replicate a uniform for him and he said it would not. Though that might be a security restriction rather than a technical one.

You're sure that wasn't Neelix and Tuvok in the pilot?

Doh, my mistake. I was wracking my brain trying to remember who said it. I tried to think of someone who would want a Starfleet uniform but wouldn't be allowed one. Q and Wesley Crusher came up but not Neelix. Thanks.:bolian:

I like the fact that they kept the uniforms they did.

I'm sure the real (off-screen) reason was due to budgeting constraints. But I thought it made sense from a story perspective.

Once again, we are supposed to be on our own in the DQ here, folks, and replicating a bunch of uniforms when a) the old ones were in good repair and b) we are supposed to be conserving our meager resources, would have been not in keeping with the show's premise.

I love the FC uniforms and am glad DS9 moved to them. But the original DS9/VOY uniforms are my second favorite...and I'm glad they got a chance to continue their life on VOY. I think they look good - a classic design that will never go 'out of style'. Which is a plus, IMO, because I personally think the early TNG uniforms are doing NOTHING to prevent the aging of that show.

It's amazing how the aftermath of that conversation carried through to nearly every subsequent episode of Voyager... "I am Vulcan." - "Well, hello there Mr. Vulcan."

I did smile eventually in Year of Hell when Neelix got a uniform he'd earned more so than that there were resource issues that the bloke was wearing dead-men's clothes.

Could be all that... But then again, maybe is the starfleet world you can where whatever uniform you want.. I would say there are uniforms we've never even seen that are worn somewhere on some ship. Much like Deanna wearing her dress thing until Jellico told her otherwise..

Well those weren't uniforms. Civilian wear.

It has to be regional? Or fitting a political climate?

Earth was still in TNG uniforms in Paradise lost, and I think Sisko changed into a TNG era uniform fopr his big speech... I might be imagining that?

I liked Sloan's Starfleet Uniform.

Black leather.

Deanna would have looked great in something like that. ;)
