Voyager specific racing uniform?

I'm fairly oblivious to minor uniform changes from series to series but this delta flyer racing uniform caught my eye. How often did it show up in the series? It reminds me a bit of the Odyssey STO uniform set decades later and I'm guessing that it was the insipration for that pc game version. Was there any backstory in the EU regarding its use? It's a minor unimportant part of trek lore but I'm a fan of the white up top.

My impression was that Tom had them custom made for the occasion. Or maybe they're from the yearly academy space race or something.

I think that Stafleet were dabbling too much with their uniforms and combadges. They were acting more like a fashion store than Starfleet with their constant changing of uniforms and combadges.

I prefer the TNG uniforms, they were the best. Those in early DS9 and Voyager are OK.

Pretty sure they were made on the fly by Tom. Pilots rarely got special jumpsuits or anything.

When replicators can fart out new uniforms as easily as old, it was inevitable Starfleet would go mad with it.

Obviously, there are the kind of people in the 24th century who like changes just for the sake of changing and most of the time such a concept goes terribly wrong.
Just look at the NHL team Washington Capitals (not my favorite team, I must state) who once have one of NHL:s best looking jerseys, red with white shoulders and those blue and white stars on the chest and arms. But they must have lost it somewhere down the road because now they are playing in their practise jerseys.

Apparently, by the time they were taking part in that race, replicator rations were no longer an issue... must have cost them a lot of repli credits ....or were they that desperate to wear something else? Or perhaps mommy Kate gave the team a special dispensation?

Then again the mere fact that by that time they had resources to spare to build the Delta Flyer in the first place might prove that point.
