Voyager=Lost in Space???

Do you think that voyager became a parody of Star Trek, specifically Next Generation? I enjoyed the show, on sort of a lost in space level, but it is so "trek-lite" for my taste. I am not slamming the show, I just wonder if anyone else would agree with this opinion.:)

I think the actors/actresses on Voyager did pretty good. But it was clear to me that even by mid point of season six on TNG they were running out of really good ideas for a ship based show. I mean, how many times can they meet up with clouds of energy that are actually..oh my god!!!..alive!!!

Voyager does have some very very good episodes. But there seemed to be a bigger share of filler episodes where nothing much happens. And I think this is the DS9/Babylon 5 effect on storytelling by that time. TNG has its fair share of filler episodes, and don't get me wrong, so did DS9. But even if DS9 strayed off on a filler episodes in seasons 4-7 you knew they would eventually get back on track with the arc story. Babylon 5 did this as well.

Voyager should have strung together a more obvious arc than just trying to get home. But, as I said, I don't fault the acting one bit. I do fault the writing and production that seemed a bit..stale...at times. And I am not slamming the show at all. I own all seven seasons and, as I said, there are some really good episodes.

I agree that there were some very good episodes, and I think that the cast was quite good. I think that the show would have been great if it had stuck to its original premise. Also, it might have been better if they had waited a few more years between TNG and Voyager

Well, when people call Anglicanism "Catholic-lite" it's pretty well understood. This seems a similar label: Lacking the weight, credibility and gravitas of The Next Generation.

VOY was a TNG clone. So no it wasn't TNG lite, they were setup almost exactly the same. Even though VOY's premise should have made it nothing like TNG.

So it's like when people refer to Catholicism as "Jewish-lite". Got it. In that case, no, I'd have to disagree with you OP. They seem about the same.
