I would have preferred TNG have continued in TV movies/miniseries. I don't think it translated well to the big screen either. (I generally think Trek gets a bit dumbed down when it gets taken to the movies.)
If they wanted to do a crossover and include crew from the other series, that might have been good too. Even though both DS9 and VGR had a definite beginning and end to their story, that doesn't preclude seeing some of the characters later on if the story is worth it
