Recently on a podcast, Dave Zappone said he was now talking to Shout Factory.I hesitate to ask, but have there been any announcements on when the blu-ray of To the Journey is due?
Well, it's up to you.Yes.
Just stating my opinion and observations.Well, it's up to you.
And so do I.Just stating my opinion and observations.
And just like there are fans of Voyager even though I'm not one, there are fans of newer Star Wars even though you're not one.And so do I.![]()
That's true. As for newer Star wars, I don't like that either. I prefer the "six originals".And just like there are fans of Voyager even though I'm not one, there are fans of newer Star Wars even though you're not one.
The passion is there if you know where to look.
I thought it was cool a year ago meeting someone who had backed the documentary and was getting to attend the showing. Unfortunately, I haven't seen them since the release.Anyone remember when we were talking about the Voyager documentary?
I backed the DS9 documentary and attended the NYC showing. I couldn't muster the same enthusiasm for this one (I did back it but didn't attend a showing), and after having seen it, I'm kind of glad I didn't...though if I'd gotten to meet any of the VOY VIPs, that might have been cool.I thought it was cool a year ago meeting someone who had backed the documentary and was getting to attend the showing. I wish I could remember how much I spent on it, because I feel as though I may have spent more than I would have wished I had now that I've seen the documentary. I remain hopeful that the disc will have some special features that will make it feel more worthwhile, but not -that- hopeful.I'll redirect the topic; if you donated to the documentary do you regret doing so? I don't but there were a few things that I acknowledge worked against the success of this documentary. Covid restrictions being at the top of the pile. Paramount also seemed to be less supportive for various reasons than with WWLB. The producers struggled with overcoming some of the hurdles and thus with communication to the backers.

Not sure if I'd say I regret donating, but given the poor communication and the rather disappointing final product, I certainly won't be donating to any further projects from 455 Films.I'll redirect the topic; if you donated to the documentary do you regret doing so? And then I said, "Bwah?," since the last thing I'd heard was the last official Kickstarter update in spring, which was, paraphrasing, "I'm sorry, we're doing it, there isn't more to say until it's done," so that's for the comment pointing me towards fresher news.I suppose we at least got what was promised in the end, unlike the Jerry Goldsmith biography Kickstarter. It was just recently revealed that the publisher basically embezzled the funds to try to pay off his considerable debt, which he never communicated with the book's author, Jeff Bond.
My first question would be if this is the most funding campaign for Indigogo, where did all the money go?
I don't remember what he says, but Zappone seems to say the contraction of Paramount and the strike drove up costs.
I don't regret backing, though I'd be slightly less likely to do so again.I'll redirect the topic; if you donated to the documentary do you regret doing so? I'm not sure that those issues explain everything, but they certainly added to the cost. Indeed, I think the strike, where crew persons hesitating assisting in production and the actors union prohibited people from doing something that would promote studio products, meant a huge chunk of time when creating new content for the documentary was gone. However, it doesn't seem to me that there was the same push among all involved: the cast and crew of DS9 wanted to validate the show, the cast and crew of Voyager wanted a version of WWLB for their show. Perhaps I'm wrong. What made the previous documentary come together more easily was that the director was widely loved (Rick Berman excepted). The only person who could have stepped into Behr shoes was Jeri Taylor, and it appears her health had been declining.I don't regret backing, though I'd be slightly less likely to do so again.
As for COVID, and strikes, and assorted hurdles...I'm not inclined to accept them as legitimate excuses for the final editing decisions made on the film. No one can convince me that it's easier to send Garrett into the sky that it would be for, say...a limited roundtable gathering to juice up the talking heads. (Similar to the bits with Garrett, Bryan, and Lolita. Only better.)
