i hate avatars in the poll. certain posters do it every time.

I like it. I know it makes reading the scores more difficult afterwards but for voting it's really handy - it means I can be sure I'm definitely connecting the right avatar to the name and I don't need to keep checking back. Maybe it's just my screwed up short-term memory though

Well, I decided

a) to be relatively experimental, in order to spur some feedback on this issue, and

b) to favor certainty in what we're voting for, over the ease of gaging how the race is proceeding.

We could always hold a poll over whether to use image tags in avatar polls!

I've never seen it here before, to the point where I didn't even know you could do it. I think it's great. It makes choosing your favorites so much easier.

Actually, it would make more sense to leave the names off. You're supposed to be voting for the avs, not who the posted them.
