Sorry I didn't get to mine much as my hours are all over the place lately. But c'mon...nobody voted for mine but me?

Hmm...Hellsgate-you might consider waiting to post until you are finished w/the story. You often post a piece and then add to it. I know this-but our friendly family of voting lurkers and once-in-a-while people might not know this.

As for voting for yourself *sigh*, I did that my first contest and it was explained that you are expected(though it aint law) to vote for others to encourage and acnowledge their efforts.:shifty:

That's about the only subject that ends up requiring the mod stick. Some people think that you should feel proud enough of your story to rate it highest - for them if you don't think it's the best, why post it? Others prefer to vote for other people.

Last time we had this bun fight I think we agreed to disagree and you can vote for who you want, yours or others. Which is why I like the voting for two stories system, since then if you want to, you can vote for your own and still pick someone else's.

It kinda reminds me of the av contests in the ENT forum...we had a few who would always vote for themeselves then one other...and this was before you could see poll results!

I always vote for other entries than mine, but that's my own philosophy...it's no rule...so to each their own!

I need to read two more stories before I can vote fairly...

Man, this is so exciting. I like to be coy and not say who I vote for, but I will say it was a VERY tough decision for me. There were several strong entries!

There are many great choices this time round.

P.S. PSGarak - I know not the place to do so but with your PM not operating I thought I'd just say your recent story over at Ad Astra fits the bill for the challenge we have up and going there.

Yay!! Thanks so much for letting me know. I'm not uber uptight about privacy when it comes to something general like this. I will be glad when I can PM, though.

I thought the last time we had this discussion the result was that you're not supposed to vote for yourself. Oh well.

I voted for the newcomers, PSGarak and KobayahiMaru13.

It's possible I missed a discussion or two :)

I see no reason to be uptight about it - if you really think your story was best, vote for it.

I just don't vote for myself out of principle. I don't feel its the right thing to do.

Agreed, it's like saying yours is better than everybody else's, and if you don't bother to vote for anyone else, it is very much a kick in the teeth to all the hard work they've put in.

Since last time I made a comment about a particular poster's behaviours and methodologies I got a warning, I won't say anything strong this time, except that people really should heed advice and learn from their mistakes.

(emphasis mine)

Excellent all around advice, regardless of the topic at hand.

I agree. While voting for yourself is legitimate in a political context I think the point of the writing challenge is to take note of other people's writing and to acknowledge their efforts.

I try... I just have a thick head so it sometimes takes a while to sink in.

Yep - a runoff is definitely in order. New voting thread up shortly for Nerys Ghemor and PSGarak - congratulations to you both!
