Voltron - New cartoon coming to Nicktoons Fall '11??!!!

I've watched the first third of the GoLion episodes, and I'm somewhat curious about the rest of that show, as well as Dairugger.

Having said that, Voltron was and is my preferred show. It's more fun. Voltron Force has recaptured that sense of fun... which is a lot of the reason why I've enjoyed what I've watched of the new series.

My favorite line in the first three episodes of Voltron Force is Hunk's: "Should we poke it?"

I loved Voltron as a kid, but I have to say that now at 38, I vastly prefer GoLion and Dairugger instead.

I just started watching GoLion and it's interesting. I like the story (though like Voltron and the new series there's a bit of uncertainty when it comes to interstellar distances), but either the translation is not great or the some of the dialogue is pretty bad. Also, I'm not a huge fan of the music; the theme song is not my cup of tea and some of the in-show music is disco influenced (Voltron had a more 80s feel to it), and that takes me out of the moment sometimes.

Still, it's a much more cohesive story in most parts and a bit more adult (lots of violence). I'm having fun realizing comparing and contrasting it to the old Voltron show and realizing where their stock footage came from.

I'm glad Voltron exists...because if it hadn't, then GoLion and Dairugger would have disappeared into obscurity and no one (especially in the US) would have ever heard of them.

Now with that said, I can't say that I look back with fondness for Voltron. Watching the original Japanese, it's painfully clear that so much was changed to make these very adult shows into the kiddy-friendly edited versions I appreciated at 13, and quite frankly find unwatchable and cringe-worthy today.

The most ironic thing, however, is that unlike what happened in Voltron, I think that Dairugger is a far more interesting show than GoLion is. GoLion, while I like it a lot, quickly devolves into a very formulaic show (i.e. Sincline comes up with some evil plan of the week, ends up sending a beastman to cause havoc. GoLion forms, battles said beastman for awhile with inferior weapons, then decides to finally use the sword to kill beastman, ad infinitum). However with Dairugger, there's a much more complicated story and more complicated villains.

I like Golion and Dairugger far better than their edited US counterparts. They are fun diversions and I'm happy they both have a R1 release on DVD with this era of classic anime hard to come by on DVD I'm looking forward to the re-release if first Gundam later this year. Golion is very interesting since I've never seen a show before or since that is very childish in ways but at the same time has a lot of graphic violence.

Five episodes of Voltron Force have aired so far, and the show has been consistently entertaining. It's not very deep or dark or super-serious, and that's fine with me. It's fun, and it makes me feel like a kid again. That's all I ever wanted from this show.

You're going to have to turn in your International Fanboy Card. Per paragraph 947.2e of the Fanboy Code, you are never supposed to like anything that isn't very deep, dark, or super-serious. Calling something "fun" is also not allowed.

I watched the first episode and it was really fun. I'm not a huge fan of the animation style. The CG Lions are fun, but everything else is a bit too..."rubbery" if that makes any sense.

I do like the story of how the war with Lotor ended and what happened to Voltron afterwards. I also really dig the wrist "sword generator" Keith used. Very cool.

I'm somewhat amazed that any events from GoLion were even loosely acknowledged in the new show. Lotor (Sincline) died in GoLion, but not in Voltron, and Lotor (Sincline) killed Haggar (Minerva) in GoLion, but not in Voltron. (It's not been explicitly stated in Voltron Force that Lotor killed Haggar, but Lotor did point out the irony that the "essence of Haggar" (haggarium) was used to bring him back to life.

Of course, neither of these are irrefutable references to events of GoLion. It's entirely possible that Lotor and Haggar died in different ways than were shown in GoLion.
