Voices Needed for New Animated Trek!

That's interesting. We've found that we've had an easier time of finding female actors than male ones for our production...

Perhaps we could trade male voices for female!

We've sent out a lot of "We regret to inform you's" to many male talents. I could ask them if they want me to share their contact info with you, if you ever need more voices.

Unfortunately, I need live action actors here in Southwest Georgia. If you know of any, have them contact us asap. If you'd like, I could even send a couple of our female actresses your way to see if they can lend a voice to your production. Just let me know!

I don't know of anyone in that area, unfortunately. Please let your actresses know they can send auditions if they are interested in lending voices to our production; we have a lot of roles to fill! Thanks!

We've had only one new female audition in the past two weeks. If you happen to know any women with access to a microphone, please send them our way!

She can do one voice, and has limited availability so can only participate for the first few episodes. If she did all the primary female characters we would need to recast every character midway through the season. That would be a mess! ;)

How does one get a microphone, or does it come with a computer or just not?

Some computers come with a "stick type" cheapie mic, some don't. Usually a separate microphone is available starting at around $20 at any place that sells computers. Of course you get what you pay for, so spending some extra money will get you better sound and a better chance of getting roles. ( Most mics today are USB compatable so you plug in and go. ) You can go crazy and spend a couple of grand on a professional, studio quality mic, but I wouldn't.

Editing software can be quite expensive (several hundred $ for something like Adobe Audition or Pro Tools) however a free program called Audacity is widely available for download (be careful from where you download, though) and does a pretty good job.

As we have matured as a production team at Excelsior we are able to be more picky about sound quality and our long term cast members have gradually upgraded the quality of their hardware, thus helping improve the overall standards of the show. Uneven recording quality is an ongoing issue when you have people all over the world of varying degrees of computer savvy sending you lines. That's part of the fun, though! (right, James? :D)

I use the mic built into the top of my iMac. It sounds the same as my $20 Walmart mic which isn't bad at all. I use Audacity to trim the recordings and make the voices sound more rich. I try to get all the recordings sounding the same, but a few people sent me fabulous professional recordings which really stand out among everyone else's recordings with lesser mics.

It really is rewarding when everything clicks and it sounds like everyone is in the same room playing off each other! :techman:

We'll send the first five scripts all at once. We just need to hunt down those elusive female voices! An online radio DJ has even been running advertisements for our project in an attempt to reach a few more.
