Vixen does Creative Couplings or: They didn't start the fire

Re: Vixen does Creative Couplings or: They didn't start the

Some of the absolute coolest story ideas, as well as some of the funniest shit I've ever heard other human beings say, has come from the bar at Shore Leave. I think we should all show up there one weekend and camp out at the bar. Doesn't even have to have a con that weekend...we can call it a writer's retreat or something.

Come to think of it, I have the beginnings of an idea for an anthology: Tales from the Shore Leave Bar.

Okay, maybe not an antho. Might make for a fun thread somewhere, tho....

Re: Vixen does Creative Couplings or: They didn't start the

^ Unfortunately, I don't think any reputable publisher would print the end result of such a thing...

Re: Vixen does Creative Couplings or: They didn't start the

"That's not man puke, that's girlie puke!"

"I fuckin' lied."

"I gotta get me some monkeys!"

Re: Vixen does Creative Couplings or: They didn't start the

"And that's when the headboard fell off the wall..."

Yes, I was aiming for something a bit different from my previous work. I had already been tagged as "the Angel of Death" by that early point in my writing career, and Small World was, in some respects, meant to show that I love the optimism and brighter sides of Star Trek, too.

It worked. Although I don't think I'll ever be able to forget Tezwa...or Galvan VI...

Still, you aren't like the Reeves-Stevenses (or KRAD, for that matter) destroying the universe... (but then pulling a Voyager)

As Keith already explained, this was the result of a bar conversation at Shore Leave. I was coming up on that scene in the manuscript (I had brought my laptop to Shore Leave, and was writing in my hotel room during the afternoons, between panels), and I described Gomez's moment of ripping Tev a new one. And Dayton immediately slipped into Tev's character and retorted -- "Poor woman; she obviously wants me." And we all just about fell out of our chairs.

"I'm stealing that," I said. "All yours," he replied.

Clearly, alcohol should be used more often during the writing process, as well as group kibitzing.

Again, it was a calculated choice. After the body counts in Wildfire and Failsafe (not to mention A Time to Kill and A Time to Heal), we figured readers would be on the edges of their seats waiting to see who bought it in Small World. Which, naturally made it a perfect opportunity for a change-up pitch. :)

I was a bit nervous when it looked like Caitano almost bit it. Wouldn't be a Mack Book without at least *one* death I had thought. And then you had him survive! I paused for a few seconds as I realized what I had read.

Glad you enjoyed the whole collection, and that Small World brought you such marked reading enjoyment. Except for an increase in my royalties, I couldn't have asked for more. ;)

I'm just waiting for Destiny and whatever other books you can come out with. I spend more of my money on books, and on Trek books in particular, so I'll be saving up.

Way ahead of you on that one, believe me..... :guffaw:

Thank you. Thank you very much.

"I fuckin' lied."

Damn. I don't remember this one.

"I gotta get me some monkeys!"

Not so much the words themselves, but the incredible lull in conversation that immediately preceded them.

Hehehehehehe. :D

Re: Vixen does Creative Couplings or: They didn't start the

"I fuckin' lied" was the response to a query of the person in question, who claimed at the close of the previous Shore Leave that he would never drink at a convention again.

Re: Vixen does Creative Couplings or: They didn't start the

Me too, too. I've heard way to many stories over the years, not to at least try to make it so I can experience some of this crazyness.

Re: Vixen does Creative Couplings or: They didn't start the

I need more craziness in my life.

Although, I realized last night to never go to bed after reading Before Dishonor whilst snacking. Because I don't know if I can handle MackDaddy of Borg and Captain Kraddio of the U.S.S Fuckin' Lied...

And no, I really wish I weren't kidding.

Re: Vixen does Creative Couplings or: They didn't start the

I'm going to do what I do with all of my problems: Either blame Min Zife or George Bush.

The trouble with reading your reviews is that they always interest me in the books and I don't have enough money, dammit!
You could always purchase the ebook edition which is cheaper then the paper book edition. It is currently only available in Mobipocket format at the moment. But if you have Windows, you can get Mobipocket desktop for free from Mobipocket and the ebook from BooksOnBoard for $7.79.

Re: Vixen does Creative Couplings or: They didn't start the

When you buy ebooks do you have to pay any extra fees beyond the book's price, like taxes or anything?

Re: Vixen does Creative Couplings or: They didn't start the

No taxes or extra fees. When you purchase an ebook, the price you see on the website is the price you pay.

Re: Vixen does Creative Couplings or: They didn't start the

^Good to know. I'm still trying to decide if I want to try and star ebooks with Slings & Arrows, and knowing this certainly improves the chances of that happening. If I do it probably won't be for a month or so then, because I've already bought like four new books in the last couple months.
