Star Trek isn't silly science fiction but a period piece. It's an invented period but you need to observe the traditions and the continuity and the styles.
And more largely, my question always is this: Is TOS representative of the Federation as a whole? No. They really, really aren’t. They’re proof of...set decorations.
Curt Swan’s Superman art did not look like Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez’ Superman art but they were the same continuity.
Steve Ditko’s Spider-Man art didn’t look like John Romita’s art. Same continuity.
Many artists can very closely ape another’s style if they wish (I’ve seen numerous examples). But they don’t. Yet people still follow the continuity without problem. No reason a TV show can’t be the same.
Nope.Star Trek isn't silly science fiction but a period piece. It's an invented period but you need to observe the traditions and the continuity and the styles.
Not really his job. The people who work for the people who work for him would be the ones to ask.I think that if someone were to ask Les Moonves if DSC takes place in the Prime universe, he'd look at you funny because he'd have no idea what you were talking about.
Lucille Ball thought "Star Trek" followed Hollywood stars on a trek. Not really his job. The people who work for the people who work for him would be the ones to ask.

Someone at CBS cares. Just not Les.True, but that's not my point. Whenever the universe DSC takes place in is questioned here, people inevitably say "CBS says it's prime." I'm pointing out that CBS doesn't care about that.
Every part of what you just posted was wrong.Star Trek isn't silly science fiction but a period piece. It's an invented period but you need to observe the traditions and the continuity and the styles.
CBS is a big company. As @fireproof78 pointed out someone knows and cares.True, but that's not my point. Whenever the universe DSC takes place in is questioned here, people inevitably say "CBS says it's prime." I'm pointing out that CBS doesn't care about that.
I think they do, but not in the way fans care about.True, but that's not my point. Whenever the universe DSC takes place in is questioned here, people inevitably say "CBS says it's prime." I'm pointing out that CBS doesn't care about that.
I'm not sure Marketing even knows what the "Prime Universe" is. Seems more of a production level purview.I think they do, but not in the way fans care about.
A poll I did here a while ago had 10% of voters say they'd end their subscriptions if Discovery wasn't set in the Prime universe. No doubt CBS have done market research with similar results. I wouldn't be surprised if they've been told to say it's prime because they don't want to lose those 10% of loyal subscribers who'll swallow literally anything as long as CBS say it's "prime universe"
I think they do, but not in the way fans care about.

Not only that, but someone if they don't know the details then they "don't care."Fans tend to think that PR hacks and CEOs think like fans. Hint: They don't.
Well I never thought I would see the day...I really liked the last two episodes. But the show just continues to cement the thoughts in my mind that there is no real way it can be the Prime timeline.
