Spoilers Visual continuity - Does Discovery strictly need to show past designs... at all?

More in line with the lore? Well most Klingons we saw were during the runs of TNG, DS9, Voyager and ENT. And they all were of the same phenotype, except those few infected with the Augment virus in ENT. So, for almost twenty years of continous production, there really was no difference in their appearance. What would be considered as lore and "most times"? Four series with more than 700 Episodes and at least four Movies? Or two series with less than 100 episodes together?

Looks are not Lore, the lore being they evolved from crustaceans and are predators, they hunt with natural weapons( which they lack). If you start to pull part the long lore, hair pops up a single time, its not a big deal at all.

The Yeti crab would like a word with you. ;)

Neat beasti, but not what many think of. I didn't even know about it.
Neither did the TNG writers, apparently. :rommie:

And I'm with you about the hazards of lore. Besides, positing that Klingons were once belligerent, horny, bipedal coconut crabs was beyond daft. But we are talking about Star Trek. It happens.

How is it not a variety of Klingon? They have a virus that mutates their very genetic code. I know that Klingons are not the brightest bunch (at least, post TOS) but idea that they are not trying to resolve the issue, especially with T'Kumva's "remain Klingon" is indicative that the Augment virus, among other Federation "intrusions" are a source of conflict within the Klingon Empire. So, the leadership might be more inclined to engineer themselves back to more "pure" Klingon.
This would be great. I like the idea of Klingons being hostile because of a serious disruption to their species instead of just having a genetic predisposition to anger.

It's ironic that the first Bat'leth design that actually looks like something a guy made by dipping his hair in lava comes along with the first Klingon design that doesn't have hair.
Oooh. Maybe hair is sacred to these Klingons?
My new and very serious theory is that all of these Klingons donate their hair to some controversial but well-known charity organization that spreads the word of Kahless by providing bat'leths to young warriors in need...

It's especially funny, if one considers that the german word for "bald" is "kahl"
