Visiting the TOS filming locations

Does the Paramount studios tour offer anything for us TOS lovers?
I think stage 31 and 32 (9 and 10 in Desilu times) are currently vacant (they have both been used for sitcoms since then) and the "40-acres" backlot is long gone.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Sadly I won't have time to re-trace the footsteps of Doug Drexler's Tribble (one day...).

Agree the Vasquez Rocks/Shambala double is the the way to go in terms of covering the most episodes, but it looks too far away from Anaheim where I'm staying with the kids for a trip to Disneyland. Also Shambala doesn't allow kids to visit.

That pretty much leaves two contenders :

Planet 4, System 892 from Bread and Circuses (one of my favourite episodes), but Mrs. BB isn't convinced it's all that worthy of a visit..."Desolate, abandoned pit" according to her :scream:

and

Miramanee's planet aka Franklin Canyon Reservoir. It looks very scenic, so we're heading up there for a picnic. Assuming we make it up there and I am not thrown into the local nuthouse by a park ranger for shouting "I am Kirok!!!" across the lake, I will take tons of pictures and post them here.

Say, if you're going to do this ...

How 'bout taking along a modern smartphone or GPS? Mark your GPS coordinates and then publish the whole shebang in Google Maps for other fans to use.

Something like this would be fun for fans: http://www.doctorwholocations.org.uk/

I would use a GPSr instead so it will be more accurate. If you do end up visiting these sites, I'd love to see the photos and then I could compare them to the on-screen versions as some have posted here in this thread already.

Can someone with some local knowledge tell me how long it would realistically take to drive from LAX to Franklin Canyon/Miramanee's planet?

I have a 5 hour gap between flights at LAX. Is a visit up to the lake do-able?

Great, hope you make it there and get take some good photos to show how it looks today!

I wouldn't take any chances around LAX. Getting in and out of the airport can be a nightmare sometimes.

LAX should be SUX but Sioux City already has it.

You want real fun, I lived in Sioux City for ten years. Not only is the airport code SUX, there's a local radio station with the call sign KSUX -- and they call themselves "the Super Pig" (after Iowa's claim to fame as a major hog-producing State).

I've not lived there for four years and I still can't get over it ... :D
