Virtual Tour of the Enterprise-D

A good bad influence

Some of you might already know these, but I just stumbled upon them by coincidence and wanted to share. It's a virtual tour of some of the sets of The Next Generation which were originally done for the CD-ROM version of the Technical Manual. It's cool, because with some of these you really feel like you're aboard the ship.

Enjoy! :)

While we're at it ... does anyone know whether the circled part in this Ten Forward image was supposed to be mirrors or does the row of windows actually go past the lounge? I guess they're mirrors, but I'm never sure.

The set had mirrors at both ends to give the illusion that the set went past the wall. But whether that was intended to imply that the "real" room on the Enterprise extended past the wall, I do not know. A comparison of window counts/patterns with the ship model is in order!

Perhaps Ten Forward continued into another room beyond the built fullscale set, however due to budget and soundstage space we never saw it?

The set appears to be symmetrical. There are two sets of doors, one on either side of the bar facing port and starboard, which probably go into one of the saucer's circular corridors, made locally non-circular by the extension of the bar into it. We know at least one set does (port), based on screen use. Have we ever seen the starboard set used? If there were other rooms as part of Ten Forward, they would have to have separate entrances.

In any of the episodes in Ten Forward, do we ever get a sense that it continues beyond that wall?

Ten Forward is located inside the 10th deck of the primary Galaxy Class hull forward bow, but how much of it is not shown in the set? That posted photo looks like it continues beyond that wall and is also another room next door that NG did not have the budget or soundstage space to build?

I used to have this! But I remember that it actually showed the path from place to place, not just "loading".

As far as the ten forward mirrors, I say they are mirrors. They use them today as aesthetics and to make rooms look larger, why not in the 24th century?

Is it just me, or is 10-Forward unusally brightly lit? I mean, it's not "Yesterday's Enterprise" bright, but it's still pretty lit up.

The corresponding deck 9 windows don't necessarily have to be A room, it could be three rooms.

He doesn't have those bent leading edge windows, though. He's got the way-too-acute angled ceiling windows.

Wow thanks for the link! I used to have the CD-Rom but it won't work on XP and newer PCs!
Anyone got an adress for the various bridges shown in Captain's Chair (the follow up to the E-D tour). It had TOS, TNG, Defiant, Voyager and Enterprise-E bridge sets with a higher resolution and even some interactive interfaces.
I would very much appreciate a link where to find that! I have the original CD but again it won't work on XP or Vista.
