Vince's abandonment issues **SPOILERS** (Entourage)

Joe Washington

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I think Vince may have abandonment issues. He started having them after his abusive father who was mentioned in Season 1 and Season 5 abandoned his family when Vince was a kid. I think these issues had reared their ugly head in Season 2 when Mandy Moore broke up with Vince to be with her ex. When that happened, Vince became super depressed, refusing to leave the house, answer calls, or listen to anything E, Drama, or Turtle said. In Vince's mind, Mandy abandoned him and it made him felt utterly alone and put him in the same bad place he was in when his father left his life. I think those same issues are what's fueling Vince's adrenaline junkie/addiction phase. In Season 6, he was trying not to let the fact that his friends are growing up with the desire to pursue their own paths in life bother him and be the Vince everyone knew and loved (his smiling exterior with the Zen-like aura is looking more like a defense mechanism). But in the Season 7 premiere, something snapped when Vince's friends and Ari thought he couldn't do this dangerous stunt and Vince saw this as them thinking he's some kind of manchild. So he does the stunt which goes well mostly and the feeling he got from it he used as a way to channel his abandonment issues in a way he thought would be fun and exciting by doing unexpected things like cutting his hair, skydiving, and buying a motorcycle. But at some point, that wasn't enough for him and so he goes for more extreme things like dating a porn star, drinking tons of tequila, and doing cocaine. Now these things are taking its toll on Vince and his career and at some point, he has to admit he has a problem and the issues that are fueling this problem. Hopefully, the writers will go into that and not have Vince be an addict for no reason. What do you guys think of my theory?

And here's something else I also think. When Vince gets the help (and hopefully when it's not too late), I don't think him going back to the way he was before his addiction. Not completely. The thing you learn in AA and NA that you need to avoid using all drugs and alcohol out of fear of a relapse. So I don't see Vince drinking or smoking weed or partying as much as he used to be. I think he may come out of this a more marture individual fighting to rebuild his career once again like Robert Downey Jr. after he kicked his addiction.

I think you're pretty much right on the money on how the season turns out. I see something major happening in the finale as in he either gets arrested for driving under the influence or even major like getting into a car accident while intoxicated. Somehow alienates himself from his friends and essentially ruining his career, further plunging in a downward spiral. The likes that even Ari can't pull him out of.

If next season being the last season and supposedly only 6 episodes with a sex and the city-esque feature film also possible, I wonder how they'll pull it off.

I'm hoping Vince gets help way before the season finale. I would hate for this season to end on a downer and in all the time I've watched the show, never has a season of Entourage ended on a downer. A Entourage season either ends on a happy or hopeful note.

And I think I know how Entourage is going to end: Vince, Eric, Drama, and Turtle will go their separate ways pursuing their own careers, no longer living together like they used to. Vince will mature after going through rehab and learn to let go of his friends at the time of the ending.

That would be the natural progession. Eric marrying Sloan, Turtle marketing Avion Tequila, Drama going bananas, and I don't even really know where Ari could go but down, already being at the top as far as agencies go.

I think that Episode 10 "Lose Yourself" is going to be the season finale of Season 7 based on my observations of the episode guide on wikipedia and TV.com which doesn't have any more episodes after Episode 10. If "Lose Yourself" is the season finale, this is how I think the season is going to end: Vince does something that makes him realize how far he has fallen and decides to go rehab. The last scene of the season will be either the boys driving Vince to the rehab center or the boys standing outside as Vince goes in the rehab center alone or being accompanied by Eric. I don't see this season ending on a life-or-death cliffhanger with Vince ODing on drugs because, like I said before, an Entourage season has never ended that way.

Next season, Season 8, is going to be the redemption of Vincent Chase as he works through the consequences of his actions last season and tries to repair the damage he has done to his career, his life, and his relationships. It won't be easy. I kind of see it as being similiar in some ways to Dr. Gregory House's personal journey of recovery after he got released from the mental asylum. There'll be some ups and downs and some bumps along the way but in the end, Vince will come out strong.

Here's another thing I foresee happening: in the beginning of Season 8, E is going to quit being Vince's manager and wants to be just friends with Vince. I think the two have fully grown from that old arrangement but haven't come to openly admit it to themselves and each other yet because of their friendship. Vince will try to get a new manager on his own but will turn to Eric from time to time for advice on who his new manager should be.

Thoughts?

I think there were only ten episodes ordered for this series and they're planning on doing six next series and then a movie. I agree with your assessment regarding Vince...I've honestly missed the majority of this season so I can't really address the rest of your post until I catch up.

I also think Vince's demand to put Sasha in the Airwalker production is going to be the last straw for the studio in charge of the movie. They are going to let him go, seeing him as more trouble than he's worth. This development is going to bring Vince's addiction to its lowest point in the season finale in a way that shock Sasha into realizing that Vince clearly has a problem and she is going from being a enabler of Vince's wild lifestyle to being one of the people fighting to get him sober and scaling back her wildness as well. To those who think Sasha is evil on the show, I believe differently and I think she's going to surprise you guys either this coming episode or the season finale. Vince's relationship with Sasha is going to be one of the relationships Vince is going to work on after his stint in rehab.

And movie-wise, Vince is going to struggling big-time to get himself a spot on a movie after the Airwalker debacle. It won't be until the final episode that he is finally casted in a movie after proving to others and himself that he's the new and improved Vince and not the reckless, addiction-driven star he was before. The movie Vince gets starred to going to be the Entourage movie that will air after the end of the series, bringing closure to Vince's emotional journey.
