There threads out there discussing bring Khan back, or having the Borg return, or having a movie about the Planetkiller...

...but I just want to get a general of idea of what type of villain people want to see in a sequel?

I'd like to see the Enterprise encounter something unknown while out on the bleeding edge of the final fronier...exploring. I'd rather not see another megalomaniac with WMDs trying to blow up planets.

I loved the movie and thought Nero was far better as a villain than Shinzon, Ru'afo and Soran put together, but I'd like to see something radically different in the next film.

I voted for "Completely alien and bizzare", btw...

No villain at all.
Or to be more precise no Khan/Nero/Shinzon type villain. No Klingons as villains. And no "Earth is at risk and about to be destroyed" while we are at it either.

I know what I don't much care for but I'm not sure what I'd like to see though. Haven't really thought about it yet.:(

Just make it original and preferably something never before seen in Trek.

No revenge motivated villain, that's for sure. I'd prefer a lesser known species - Tholians are my preference - hatching a plot that requires the crew to use their brains a little. Also, I'd want to see them include a human agent working on their behalf within the Federation, to give the baddies a human face.

I would like to see them do a purely non-villain V'ger/Doomsday Machine threat, but save that for the following one. The new audience will have to be eased into that sort of story.

Yep, I'm with you. Something alien and bizarre. Nero was good, but we need a break from costumed super villains, or the Batman franchise parallels will get uncomfortably true.

Reboot, baby.

Reboot.

Keep thinking we'll see Klingons in the next movie. Klingons and Khan. And Gorn.

Klingons and Khan team up to fight the Gorn. :D

Part of me really likes this. That part of me must be extinguished.

I don't care if it is a familiar face, a familiar race or an unknown new guy just as long as they are well written, intriguing and has understandable motivations. In other words, everything that Nero isn't.

We already had some pseudo political crisis with The undiscovered country and Insurection, but I think we could go all in on this. Traitors, internal divisions even civil war.

That would actually be a fresh idea in Trek and the movie opens this possibility now that Vulcans will be more occupied saving their race than offering their logical take on every point and everybody else arguing about what to do with them (as in nobody wants to take them in as refugee).

In any case, I had with the revenge/grief-driven villains.

Khan - Blames Kirk for the death of his wife and the miserable life he had on Ceti Alpha V.

Soran - Doesn't blame anyone, but is willing to commit genocide to get his dead wife back.

Ru'afo - Blames the Ba'ku for his exile (and the subsequent miserable life).

Shinzon - Blames Picard, the Federation, and the Romulans for the miserable life he lived.

Nero - Blames Spock for the death of his wife.

Something new/different please. I would also like to see a more ambigious and multi-faceted villain, who is more of an antagonist instead of an "evil" person. For example, a deeply patriotic Commander Kor who cares about the empire and the men under his command... and for that reason he wants to defeat/destroy the Federation (alternative: a Commander Kor who cares about about the empire and the men under his command and for that reason he doesn't have a very high opinion of his superior officers and his orders to destroy the Federation... but he carries them out anyway, because of his sense of duty).

Ah, and no time travel please.

If i'm honest I would love to see the Klingons again, they were always brilliant villains in the TOS films and it's been a while since the Klingons were to uber enemy of the Federation and it would be nice to feel that again.

Of course i'd also like to see someone or something completely different but why have 1 villain and not 2? surely we can have the best of both worlds, an old villain in the Klingons and a new one in the form of something or someone never before seen.

If i'm honest though I think a pissed off Sybok (pissed at the destruction of Vulcan) could make an interesting addition to the next film, so let's have 3 villains!!!!!!

The Klingons, Sybok and something completely different.

The Klingons could be the antagonists of Kirk, Sybok could be the antagonist of Spock and the never before seen villain could be the antagonist of the Federation.

Wouldn't that be a little bit too much "Batman"?

Agreed. There is a case to be made that everybody on the list after Khan was an attempt to recapture the magic of Khan. Nero came closest, now let's be done with it.

And perhaps, throw in a truly bizarre threat that everyone has to deal with? (As long as they don't do an environmental spin on the external threat, those are always dreadful.) That would make for a nice recapturing of the old TOS virtues.
