Vic Fontain

^ So what did you think of that scene with "mirror Fontaine"? ;)

as I said, that was only there in the first place because James Darren wanted to do an action scene. I mean he always loved playing regular Vic but he wanted just one time where he could be a warrior. :D

Strangely enough, there are some who thought that the other Fontaine was an android. Don't see how that could be possible at all, because humans in that universe were slaves by that point and never could have built an android.

Me, I'm sticking with the thought that it was mirror Felix. We don't know HIS last name, do we? ;)
I never understood where the notion of mirror Fontaine as an android came from.

I just found out that a person I know has a record called "Her Royal Majesty" with James Darren from 1962.
Not Vic Fontaine style but still quite good. :techman:

I love Vic Fontaine. Not ironically, but 100% genuinely love Vic. I think he was always written with sincerity and thoughtfulness. He was often a better counselor than the other Trek counselors. At least in terms of actual counseling. He's a great singer. His scene singing "The Best is Yet to Come" with Sisko was phenomenal. And at the end of the series when he sang "The Way You Look Tonight" I was honestly in tears. I think "It's Only a Paper Moon" by itself justifies the inclusion of that character in the series.

I really can't say enough nice things about Vic Fontaine. He was played so well by James Darren. I really can't imagine DS9 without him. He's as essential to me as anyone else in that cast.

Vic is exactly like Guinan...

Exactly. Although I personally like Vic, but LOATHE Guinan, they fill the same role. Unfortunately, this role is to a essentially rob the counselor in each of their respective series of their supposed purpose. They offer the crew counsel when needed, sadly leaving Ezri standing around fretting through her neuroses and Troi modeling her informal wear around the flagship (at least until the later seasons).

I must admit that I like Vic Fontaine more than Guinan.

Ezri's struggle after she was joined with Dax is quite understandable. She needed time to adjust. That is difficult in a profession where you have to care for the mental well-being of others.

I like Ezri.
A great character. A pity that she arrived so late into the series. Not that I dislike Jadzia or wanted her out in any way but I would have liked to see Ezri as a sister to Jadzia or so.

A shame they didn't translate The Lives of Dax into German. Great Dax background stories. For all of the hosts.....

Vic's guns-blazing scene, and his death, were hilarious when I first saw it, and when I thought they were saying he was flesh and blood. The hilarious thing was that he could not possibly be human. It adds to the utter overload of parallel universe craziness, and they speed past it SO fast that you just go WTF then you're on to the next thing...

Really though, look at the brief close up we get of the body and the smoking wound. It certainly looks like damaged electronic components to me.

It's interesting that some people get James Darren and Bobby Darin confused. Both singer-actor and both born in 1936.

Personally, I think the Vic Fontaine character owes more than a little to Al Martino's character, Johnny Fontane, in the Godfather movies.

Yes, I agree, which would also make Vic a bit reminiscent of Frank Sinatra, since there are a lot of Sinatra characteristics in Johnny Fontane.

I like his little dumb jokes and humor. I thought it was kitschy and cute.

However, I would agree it seemed like they overused him a bit. I think he would have been more likeable without the frequent musical numbers.

I like Vic, and his lounge, and his singing.

Although I personally don't think Vic was self-aware. Vic was a non-sapient character whose "personality" was being run by the holodeck's computer.

Vic's presentation was of a self-aware individual.

In my head canon, Felix illegally imbued Vic with sentience after learning about the Moriarty incident on the Enterprise. Perhaps Barclay blabbed about it while he was a bit tipsy in a shore leave bar. There was always a little something suspicious to me about Vic's programming.

I'll always love Vic.

You're seeing the ambient lighting shining on the wound. That's why it looks like components.
Well, I'll look again next time. I have gone over it a lot, though. It would show they put some thought into the problem of Vic being human, and they usually do put thought into things.

Loved Vic. I personally think he should have done way more Cole Porter, and not just "I've got you under my skin."
"You're the top," "I get a kick out of you," ... When I think of Garak and Bashir in the context of those songs (and other Porter songs) I start to giggle.

I always liked Vic. Of course I'm a huge fan of the Rat Pack, and others like it. I generally listen too types of music.

I know his music was quite Sinatra style. But Vic sang it in a charming way. And I loved his interactions with the DS9 crew. His duet with Sisko was fantastic. I wish we'd seen more of Avery Brook's musical talent in his role as The Sisko.....
