Yes...although I'm sure I'll enjoy it no matter what...this will be yet another inflection point for everyone to go batshit crazy.

I guess that's part of the fun now, though.

It will. I guarantee it. I can't believe this still has to be explained. 1960s tech looks laughable in 2018.
Nope.

What does "hero" model mean? Is it some technical term?

Hero model means a main ship, or a ship that is important. It's a visual effect term (sorry, I work in the biz and forgot to explain).

Many CG models are only built with minimal detail because they will never be seen up close, only background ships, so it would be a waste of effort, time, and money to make them super detailed. They only need to look good enough far away.

A hero model means a CG model that is built ultra detailed. Discovery, Shenzhou, and presumably the Enterprise would be hero models because they are seen very close and are very important in the show.

Sorry, but you're clouded by nostalgia. The exterior isn't horrible, but it's dated. It will probably be refined to fit modern aethestic but still look like the Enterprise. Much like a 1960s Mustang compared to a 2018 Mustang. The interior, such as the corridors, engineering, bridge, etc are VEEERRRYYYY dated and 100% without question look laughable as future tech. I say this as someone who adores TOS, but to deny it's design is a product of its time is intellectually dishonest.

No I'm not clouded by nostalgia. It's a space ship not a car. Different functions. Sure the interior is dated but there are ways to fix that without sacrificing it's design. If we even see it's interior in Discovery. It's a staple of the universe. Who says I'm denying it's a product of it's time? It's a product of it's universe.

I guess as a random person on the internet, my word means nothing, but anyway, I promise.....PROMISE you it will be changed. But it will still unmistakably be the Enterprise. They aren't going to reinvent the wheel.

Well it wouldn't feel consistent with Discovery's aesthetic style. Although, isn't there another thread on the forum about how Discovery would be leading in to the aesthetic style of TOS?

Yeah, this topic went exactly where I thought it would go before it reached page 2....:rolleyes:

Yeah, I should have just let people have their opinions. When will I learn that purist Trekkies minds cannot be changed? Dogmatic loyalty to "canon" real world implications (dated aesthetics) be damned.

Heck, even if it's lit differently enough that the lighting change makes it look to have textures different than seen in The Cage, there would be a backlash about lighting.

There will be backlash, hate and discontent no matter what.

That's why it's best for the artists and producers to just do what they feel is right. You are never going to please everyone...and you'll please even fewer by trying. So just do whatever feels right and stand behind it with conviction.

To hell with everyone who is gonna blow their stack.
